I just spent half an hour reading complex literary thoughts on Harry Potter, and somehow this has made me think about Doctor Who. SPOILERS FOR SERIES SIX. Three things only, but I tend to wander off on a tangent....
Those are good thoughts! I've been trying to sort out a lot of this in my head too, but here are just a few things:
We still don't know whose voice spoke the words "Silence will fall" in the TARDIS, when it took River on that side trip to Amy's house, or if some force (owner of the voice?) hijacked the TARDIS at that point.
Look closely at the Silents' suits. They look like--well, they're textured, as if part of their...skin or something? It makes me go ewww. And I think the suits are--protective coloring?
Talking about memory--and time--we're still not sure what River knows (or remembers) at the various times we see her. Does she really not recognize the warehouse, the spacesuit, the child's room in the orphanage? My theory on why she "feels sick" down in the tunnels is that she's experiencing some post-traumatic stress: seeing the Silents briefly triggers the suppressed memories from her childhood.
I'd have to watch again to be sure, but I think you're right--the Doctor could be looking at the lone Silent there by the lakeside--or is he watching for Canton's arrival? (Has Canton arrived, unseen by the others, at that point?)
Thank you kindly for imploding my brain at this time!
I agree about the voice; it sounds like it could maybe be a Silent speaking, but I'm not sure... it also sounds a bit like Prisoner Zero. Maybe Prisoner Zero masterminded all of this and that's why it's locked up? I mean, to be Prisoner number 0 has to be important - the one who was in before all the others?
I thought at first the suits were wet, slimey - and the Silents do seem a bit amphibious with those flipper-like hands... but protective colouring makes a lot of sense, actually.
Maybe regeneration suppressed the memories. It's bizarre. Then again, maybe she's been told as a child by the future!Doctor that she has to pretend not to recognise it... I don't know.
You're welcome :D And I have no idea about Canton...
