Okay, so it's nearing the end of Day 10 of NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). I've still got a few hours to get some productive writing done before bed. I usually handwrite my chapters first, then after 2-3 days I'll type them up, more to get an idea of where I stand than anything. As of right now, my total word count is 8,651 words. This makes me 9,682 words behind where I ought to be at this point in NaNo, and if I wish to finish the 50K that NaNo asks for, I'll need to write about 1,970 words a day every day to finish. I'm hoping to get some writing done tonight, and then I hope to get a lot of writing done tomorrow at some point.
Since one of my friends is returning to the Center tomorrow sometime (I'm not sure when exactly), I'm hoping to do the first exercise in Chapter Six of "No Plot? No Problem!" by Chris Baty--which is where you get some friends and/or family together & give them some paper & pens/pencils & tell them a bit about your novel (such as who the central characters are, a bit about the villain, a bit of what's happened in the novel up to this point, and a vague direction of where the novel is going, etc.) and then go into the background as your friends/family debate over what they think could or should happen next in the novel--from broad things to very specific. I have 3 or 4 friends whom I might be able to convince to do this exercise tomorrow with/for me, and I think it could be very fun to do if I can somehow do it right. I've never done this exercise before--I've been too scared to, plus I haven't really had the sources to do it--and am nervous about doing it. I just hope my one friend can get back to the Center early enough in the day that I can do this activity before everyone wants to start getting ready for bed and such!
My novel is going okay so far. A lot has happened in the 10 chapters I've written, and a lot more has to happen before the dramatic climax. I'm just running out of ideas of how to proceed and what exactly to write regarding the stuff that needs to happen, and separating what's necessary from what may not be necessary on some level or another. Oh well, it's NaNo & I'm supposed to have fun, right? I'm hoping tomorrow's exercise helps unblock me & helps get those muses murmuring in my ears with abundance again!
