As several of you may know, coming up in November is National Novel Writing Month, better known as NaNoWriMo. It's an event that runs the month of November, and it encourages writers to write 50K words on a novel during the 30 days of November. I've been doing the event since 2009, and have yet to win. This year, I hope will be different! I've been doing plenty of planning in my spare time, when I'm not socializing or eating or sleeping or something.
I'm trying not to plan too much, because that'll bleed the fun out of the writing process. Yet I don't want to completely wing it either, because that's what I've done the last few years and it hasn't worked for me. So yep, doing something different in a new environment.
For those of you who are wondering, my novel is going to be a modern day retelling of the fairy tale Red Riding Hood. The main character is a girl named Raven--who is the daughter of the woman & the Lycae (basically a werewolf, for lack of better description) who inspired the original fairy tale. The male lead is Logan, a Lycae-Demon bounty hunter who is assigned the task of kidnapping Raven and taking him to his employer, Goliath. Goliath wishes to exact revenge on Red Riding Hood--for he believes that Raven's mother killed his (Goliath's) brother many years ago. Whetehr this is true or not shall be discovered later.
There are also going to be elements of other fairy tales implied in the novel as well; included fairy tales are Beauty & the Beast & Aladdin & maybe even The Frog Prince. I'm still working on details and an outline. I've got character outlines for the main characters, and even a side character or two. I'm still working on a title--I've got a few options, but can't seem to decide on a particular one. It's frustrating, really. Hopefully I'll decide on a title in the near future. ;)
