The game, flist, is on!

So I finally discovered Sherlock.  I kind of got Hype Aversion (as TVTropes would say) during the summer, when everyone was raving about it and I felt too lazy to look up the episodes.  But now I'm watching it on PBS with my mother, and I LOVE IT!!!  Well, the second episode wasn't as good as the first, but the preview for the third episode seems to promise fantastic things.

To be fair, I've read several of the original stories and I've seen the 2009 movie as well as an episode of the 1980s series, but I'm not a gigantic Sherlock Holmes buff.  I do enjoy the stories, though.

I love, love, LOVE the characters.  Sherlock is such a lovable sociopath!  I just love his genius and general oddness.  I can definitely see parallels between him and the Doctor (although the Doctor owes a lot to the original Holmes).  But I also see Dexter parallels as well (more sinister and skillful brother, exactness, and the opening sequence).  He's just so much fun!  And Watson is so cute in his sweaters, and he's so adorable when he's worried.  Holmes and Watson have such a cute slashy thing going on, but I'm not sure if I want smut.  I don't know---I just like things the way they are.  That's weird for me.

Oh and Lestrade!  His whole Commissioner Gordon schtick makes me really like him, for some reason.  Ooh, and Mycroft's such a wonderfully manipulative bastard!  I think I didn't like the second episode as much because these two weren't in it.  And I have a feeling I'm going to love Moriarty. (And yes, I know that he is a certain way, but I don't want to know much more than that.)

The first episode's plot was so tight and I love the visual cues to Sherlock's thought process---different yet similar to what they did in the RDJ movie (and I think both are valid interpretations of the character).  The villain was so wonderfully ordinary and yet psychotic.  The whole kept me guessing constantly.  Unfortunately, the second episode's crime syndicate plot felt much more generic.  Honestly, I've seen similar plots on both 21 Jump Street and The A-Team.  Moffat, why are you cribbing from Stephen J. Cannell?  Not to mention probably 100 other anti-hero and/or crime shows.  But I think things will pick up next week.  I really wish there were more episodes, and I really am happy to hear it's getting a second season.

If anyone wants to discuss this, I'm totally up for it!
