I watched a few early episodes of Once Upon a Time (like the first two or three), but then had to stop watching do to an ungodly load of homework in the fall semester. It was good, if cheesy. Then I tuned in again tonight because of a certain guest star who is relevant to my current main fandom.
...And dammit, I loved the Mad Hatter/Jefferson. I preferred Storybrooke!Jefferson to Past!Jefferson because I loved that he's mad because he is so damn sane. Well, he's super-sane in that he's utterly aware of his situation, whereas everyone else is clueless. This series relies so heavily on dramatic irony that it's nice to see a character (who isn't Regina or Henry) who's immune to it. He's clearly very powerful yet absolutely powerless in his current situation. It's just a really interesting dilemma.
Past!Jefferson was just super-cheesy, although the tea party with his daughter (who is named Grace! Woo-hoo!) was really cute with the white stuffed rabbit. Oh, and I really liked "I hate Wonderland." It's my least favorite Disney movie. Still, those scenes felt a bit stilted, but maybe that was because of the cheap-looking CGI (though I did like the weird mystery surrounding the Queen of Hearts). The only time I absolutely loved Past!Jefferson was in the final shot of him making all those hats and giggling and embracing his madness. It was sad but amusing.
Anyway, despite the cheesy dialogue that plagued this episode, I ended up shipping dear Hatter with Regina in the past and Emma in the present. Dear God, I hope they bring him back because he could provide a loophole around the curse.
I have to go write some sort of crossover fic with something.
