So I babysat for Hunter Mae on Tueday, which I think I wrote about. What I failed to mention, was how the battery light in my car went off halfway home from babysitting. I proceeded to drive home very panicked, thinking my car would die any second. It didn't, and I got home fine. But of course I was freaked out about driving out to Valencia the next day. It's 50+ miles round trip, and if my battery is questionable, that isn't good.
I called Adrienne's mechanic yesterday morning and he said if the light went off, it was probably the alternator and not the battery. So I need a new alternator. And it would not be good to drive long distances in the meantime. I proceeded to call Gary, Lisi's husband and explain my predicament. I said I could either get there later in the afternoon after having taken in my car, or take a cab up there if he didn't mind paying. He opted for #2. It ended up costing $60. Yeah. I never minded the drive on my own, but suddenly when every mile is costing money, it seems twice as far.
I got there yesterday and Hunter Mae was worse than the day before. She'd been throwing up and went to the doctor to be checked out. She had a shot there and was very grumpy, lethargic and sick all day. She wasn't much fun and was very irritable and irritating, and I went from being aggravated to feeling bad, because she was pretty sick. I ended up sleeping over there, because I would have had to take Lisi's SUV back to my house, then drive back early to get there at 9am. It just made more sense to sleep there.
I slept in Hunter Mae's bed, which was weird. Definitely not a good night sleep. Lots of tossing and turning, and it was chilly in there despite me sleeping in my sweater. Of course, I had no pants on because I didn't want to sleep in jeans, so that could have been a factor in my being cold. Hunter Mae wandered into her room at 7am this morning, and I woke up when she did. We chatted a minute while she stood in the doorway, then I told her to close it for a minute so I could get my jeans on.
I got more dressed and Hunter woke up Emily, who is still sick. I sent Emily back to bed and wrangled Hunter Mae. She was much better than yesterday. Little bouts of brattiness, but not as many and not as severe. And we actually did a lot of fun stuff today. We went on a safari around the kitchen and living room, keeping an eye out for wild animals and dragons. We painted pictures with these paint marker thingies and hung the pictures on the fridge. We played store, where we bought things with fake money, which was really Target receipts and playing cards. And we played pirates and went sailing, looking around for treasure and taking care of abandoned babies on our ship. It was pretty fun actually.
Lisi came home around 6ish and Hunter Mae was very happy to see her. Lisi brought her back a ceramic bell that said "I *heart* NY" on it, which Hunter Mae promptly dropped and broke. Lovely. They paid me and Gary drove me home. I was actually afraid the car ride home would be awkward, because I don't really talk to Gary much, but it wasn't. We had some good conversation, which was nice. I got paid $300 for the past 3 days, plus the $60 for the cab ride. Not too bad, if I do say so myself.
And it's perfect timing to pay for my new alternator. Joy. I just hope that the garage is open tomorrow, because I doubt it'll be open Christmas, I'm not sure if they're open on Sunday and I have a production meeting on Monday at 1pm. Oy. I really hope they're open tomorrow. I want to get it taken care of ASAP.
