This is one of the first videos that I ever made in Korea. I was passing by the music room at Changpo Middle School and hear Green Day. I had only been in Korea for a couple of month so I naturally grabed my camera and started filming. Turned out some 3rd grade students where practicing for a talent show.
As recent as a couple of weeks ago I realized that I have been in Korea for almost 5 years. That's more and long enough for me to begin to see my students from my first years out in the world as adults. It would be a lot to me, as I am sure as it does to all teachers. When what so much of what we do is treated as throwaway "edutainment". Nothing would make be feel better than to see a former student many years later.
That time was last week when I walked into Tilt and an acquaintance called me over. Turns out he goes to the same coffee shop everyday and one of the clerks there was my student 5 years ago and he had brought him. Not only was he a former student but he is one of the students in the Green Day video; one of the first Youtube videos that I ever put up.
He told me that he say the video and had been watch my videos on and off for years and they make him thing I am a very strange person.
This made my year!
