I went on a ski trip with Changpo this weekend. In true Korean style we packed in so much stuff that I felt like i had been gone for a week by the time we got back. We went up north to the next province and hit up a cave. After we gorged ourselves on Hanwoo Beef (100% free of American Mad Cow) we dropped our stuff off at our condo. We went to the only Casino that Koreans are allowed to go to in Korea and it sucked. No drinking, no smoking, and apparently no gambling because it was insanely crowded with lines two people deep at each table. I even ponied up for a beer at 6,000 won a pop only to find out that it was NON-alcoholic beer. We ended up staying for about 1 hour. Just enough time for me to finally get a seat at the roulette table for 10 minutes...
Then it was back to the condo for copious amounts of booze and Gwamaegi (aka half dried mackerel that Pohang is famous for). I ended up going to bed first and laid down my matting in an empty room. Next thing I knew I was awaken by a drunk ajeoshi spooning me and snoring in my ear...
The next morning I went skiing for the first time almost ever. after a 10 minute lesson my coworkers convinced me to go up to the intermediate slope with them. It was a blast despite the constant falling down and generally looking like a foreign fool. Finally I stopped sat down and watch what other people were doing. I did much better after that, but I still had to catch a ride on the snow mobile to get down in time to catch the bus.
It was fun I am lucky my coworkers called in some favors to get me off of work at my other school so I could come along on the trip.
Sunday I went to the Lee Song Hee company party. It was interesting getting a behind the scenes look at how an elite hagwon works. I just wish I had gone home earlier because Monday was not much fun and i think i had caught a cold.
This week I am having my students make X-mas cards for their parents. I keep having to explain to them that you start an X-mas card to your parents with "Dear Mom and Dad," not "Dear My Parents". This Friday is my B-day and we will be heading to Daegu for a Gyeongbuk-wide X-mas party.
