A cross post from my EFLclassroom.ning.com blog. Which is
here. Basically the story is that today I noticed a post about an online graduate school and I looked into it was was disgusted with what I found. The best part is that I late found what this dude was saying on a Christian forum which completely undermined his claims that KEISIE is a completely secular thing. Funny how its a grad school when on EFL Classroom, but it's a ministry when he is on this
forum here.
I am pretty stoked with myself. I really felt like I did a bit of journalism and came to a conclusion and reported a story that I can stand by.
What really chaps my ass is not that they posted an advert for a school like this, its that they were so deceptive about its true nature.
Hello Ningizens, this is the first time I have written a blog that even acknowledges the existence of eflclassroom.ning.com, but today I wanted to bring something to the community's attention.
If you are like me and your are interested in graduate school then you have probably already read
this advertisement for MA and Doctorate programs through
KEISIE. What the advert that was posted by a certain Dr. Wayne Bottiger failed to mention was that KEISIE has working relationship with and touts itself as an extension of
Trinity">Trinity Graduate School of Apologetics and Theology in India.
Why is this important? Because the advertisement that Dr. Wayne Bottiger post is misleading in that it fails to mention that applications would be applying to a school that in their
own website states that one of the goals of the school is to:
“encourage condemnation of all heresy and compromise”
And that another goal is: “The very purpose of our training is to equip students to defend the fundamentals of Christian faith.”
The website also makes it very clear that this is an organization that is run entirely by men and suggests that this “graduate school” shares many of the same sexist views found in the American Evangelical movement.
Dr. Wayne Bottiger’s
own words show us that KEISIE is dedicated to: “provide a Degree focus that holds true to the same Bible-based principles and foundation Trinity supports”. This is something he conveniently left out of his seemingly innocuous posting.
Most importantly a trip to
Creationist.org shows us that Trinity’s Apologetics courses are listed as a resource for enterprising creationists. It is clear that that Trinity is and by extension KEISIE are committed to giving academic legitimacy to Creationism (a.k.a. Ignorant Design) and missionaries around the global.
If that is all your bag then, hallelulah! But I am incensed to see this on EFL Classoom as this would have been hardly a source of aggravation had Dr. Wayne Bottiger not taken the deceptive approach and simply disclosed the goals of the organizations that he was advertising.
This is part of a larger problem of evangelicals hijacking the EFL profession to pursue dominionist aims. Proselytizing is much easier when you are in an unequal position like teach-student and your true intentions are masked. SHAME ON YOU DR. WAYNE BOTTIGER AND KEISIE!!!!!
Peace and Love,
EPIK Justino
