Finally some photos. Lets start with
Changpo Middle School and
my office there. They had an
Art Festival there and I have to say I was really impressed with the
students work. With thier style of education here I have been quite often surprized about how most students seem to possess at least the basic skills needed to do some art and understand the basics of painting, crafts, classical violin and piano. After seeing it I am now convinced of the high value of art in schools.
There were pieces of
sculpture,
Pencil scetches of traditional scenes, Some
anime inspired art done by some
students of whom some were more excited to have thier picture taken than
others, There were also some
pieces made from recycled materials Include
Pigs and
more Pigs. There was also some
poetry, it looked nice but I am no where close to understanding it. I made it out ok, dispite the constant threat of furry old
lobsters...
On food, they have a
delightful dish here that is a small chick stuffed with glutenous rice, ginsing, and some other strange herbs. It is delicious and comes out boiling hot. However Koreans look at me funny when I order this food to warm up. This is because this boiling and piping hot bowl of warm chickeny goodness is actually a summer dish... Aparently you fight being hot by eating hot foods and making your body sweat it all out.
Another dish that is I like is something that is actually in season and Pohang is famous for (according to people that live here that is). Apparently
Konbegi (sp?) is half dried large and unsalted anchovies. These are to
be enjoyed with soju (pictured) and a spicy and salt red sauce.
Also I went
bowling. I was invited with a guy I met in a bar named Eric. He is Korean and hilarious. Is English is amazing and
it turned out that he knew a dude named Gabe that I met here on a seperate occasion. So he asked us to go bowling with his
sisters and thier friends. Its different here. There is NO BEER!!! The equiptment was Brunswick however.
I had drastically underestimated how much I missed a
turkey dinner until I went to the one
put on by Mindy's later that night with
Gabe. Mindy's is a western style bar that is owned by a
Canadian and his Korean wife. I thought
it was ok, so to speak and we had a proper excuse to
eat cheesecake with chopsticks.
