weather, moods, & music

It's rainy out, but not actually raining, which is an annoying state of affairs.

I know a lot of people whose moods are fairly closely linked to weather and seasons. That's not true for me (except insofar as 1. extreme heat makes me very, very crabby, and 2. places where the seasons don't change appreciably make me nervous). My moods are much more related to the music I'm listening to or hearing in my head. (It's not always a one-to-one correspondence, either; there's a sort of alchemical reaction with existing mood, so that it pleases me to listen to depressing music if that's what I'm in the mood for.)

I say all this because I'm feeling cranky this morning, and it just occurred to me that my internal music all morning has been Ani DiFranco's "Done Wrong":it's a cold rain
it's a hard rain
like the kind you find in songs
I guess that makes me
the jerk with the heartache
here to sing to you about how I've been done wrong
...rather than my usual rainy-day mental soundtrack, The Go-Betweens' rather chipper "Right Here":rains today so you stay inside and lock your door
crying all the time, crying for-you don't know what for...
your hands are tired, your eyes are blue
I'm keeping you right here, right here, right here...
Welcome to my brain. It's a little weird in here sometimes, but not too bad as long as you don't mind the soundtrack.

music: songs, music
