Festivid treat #3, made with love for
sdwolfpup. I'm sorry I couldn't manage an Aaron Burr vid for you -- I tried, I promise! -- but I couldn't pull together the source, let alone find a song that would do justice to your feelings for him. So a tribute to A.Ham will have to suffice. I am so glad to be sharing a love of this magnificent musical with you. ♥
Here I Stand
source: Hamilton
music: Sims, "Here I Stand"
summary: I got my wits, I got my heart, I got my blade.

All the thanks in the world to
renenet -- not only for beta comments and boundless enthusiasm (for both the vid and the musical!) but because she put up with my agitation while I worked on the vid and my anxiety as we waited for Festivids to go live. She actually spent half an hour on the phone with me watching the vid on repeat and giving me a play-by-play of her reactions and associations just to calm me down when I was freaking out about having finished a vid I not only couldn't post but couldn't post about. She is my favorite.

This is the third of three (!) Festivid treats that I made for 2015-16, but it's the idea that got the ball rolling. I was out in my yard raking leaves in early November, as one does, listening to my iPod on shuffle as a break from the Hamilton musical, which I had been listening to non-stop (NONNNN-STOP!) for, uh, about six weeks, and a song came up -- not this song, a different song off the most recent Doomtree album -- that has some lines that resonated really strongly with Alexander Hamilton for me.
There was no way I was going to vid that song. It's too long, for starters, and editing it would be a nightmare; I mean, I've got some audio editing skills, but I am not a freaking miracle worker. Plus a friend had mentioned last spring that she was thinking about it for an epic vid in a very different fandom, so as far as I'm concerned she has dibs. But Doomtree has a deep bench and a long history, so I thought, well, I have nineteen hours of their collective back catalogue, lemme just poke around for a few days and see what else I can find that says "A.Ham!" to me.
When this song came up, I knew I was done looking. (And, in the meantime, I had found songs for a couple of vidlets as well while browsing my pop playlists.)
The song was about a minute longer than I figured I could manage, so I did have to cut it. It was easy to edit, thank goodness, though I was sorry to lose the lines "I'mma get my heaven in the middle of hell / even if I make it myself" and, I have to tell you, I was tempted to keep the part where S-I-M-S-real-name-all-heart-all-day spells out his name just like A-L-E-X-A-N-D-E-R-we-are-meant-to-be-a-colony-that-runs-independently except, you know, with way fewer letters -- all of which is to say, the song contains even more Hamilton-appropriate awesomeness than I was able to use, so
go get the original song and give Sims some money for it and then vid the rest of it in your head without the limitations of the b-roll.
