Glee 5x02 "Tina in the Sky with Diamonds"

I love Santana, and I love that Santana has a new girlfriend; for all that I enjoyed Santana/Brittany, my real 'ship is Santana/happiness, so cute new girl about whom she is adorably flustered = a big Yes Please from me. I do not love that Glee has chosen to adopt biphobia within the lesbian community as one of their intermittent moments of realism, and I love even less that it's coming from Santana (Brittany was the one who committed to that relationship; Santana was the one who wouldn't come out and then later broke things off, so seriously, show, KNOCK IT OFF). Sigh.

But! Santana and Rachel at the diner make me happy, Rachel yenta-ing is hilarious, Santana really is cute in flustered mode, and now Kurt is working there too? BRING IT. And Rachel got the part in Funny Girl, awww!

I... have a lot less to say about McKinley this week, since nearly everything that happened there made me cringe. Sue's variously casual-and-not expressions of racism: still not funny! Blaine not remembering why Sam is his best friend: also not funny! Sam and the not-really-a-nurse: made no sense and, more importantly since I am mostly past expecting the show to make sense, was not charming! Actually, my favorite bits at McKinley (...besides Blaine talking about Kurt, which, yes, adorable) were Unique and Marley being BFF-y, the two of them plus Kitty offering Tina their prom dresses, and Kitty in her t-shirt and leggings and prom hair after loaning Tina the Pink Dress Of Unspeakable Pinkness. That moment made me like Kitty about 500% more than anything else the show has given us so far, so hey, nicely done.

The music was not, on the whole, as integrated into the narrative as last week ("Something"? really?), but "Here Comes the Sun," "Hey Jude," and "Let It Be" were all solid, and I am a sucker for the show's ensemble numbers, so, you know, not a total loss. On the other hand, it seemed like a bit of a waste of The Beatles to me, which is a shame given how much mileage they got out of them in 5x01.

In sum: not a great ep, for me. But also not a heartbreaking ep, which is a nice change from last year, and it did have a few charming scenes that I will be happy to revisit if I ever find a vidsong that adequately expresses my delight re: the Bushwick living arrangements. ...which, okay, will probably be never, but a girl can dream. :D

As always, I am completely unspoiled for all upcoming episodes and would like to remain that way, so please: no spoilers (including casting spoilers), song titles, episode titles, info from promos or interviews, etc.
