It was shaping up to be one of those days for Light. He hadn't heard that his first class was canceled until he got there, then his partner for a project hadn't completed her portion of the work and they'd ended up having a debate about Kira in his ethics class. It would have been easy, and a little suspicious, to simply not participate in the last, citing his father's involvement in the investigation as unfair bias. But he'd done the better thing and stated that although he agreed that criminals waiting for execution shouldn't be kept lingering on Death Row, nobody should have the right to pass judgement himself.
As he left class and started walking back towards his room, he failed to notice a patch of ice, stepped on it, and slid forward. All of Light's things flew out of his hands and across the sidewalk near him as he fell backwards, flat on his ass.
