“The mind can calculate, but the spirit yearns, and the heart knows what the heart knows.”

Michael stirred slowly, feeling the warm body pressing into his side and not wanting to move too much. He knew that he had to get up, though. He had responsibilities. Things to take care of. And he actually liked it. He knew he had a lot of work to do before he had the level of respect that his father had, but he enjoyed what he was doing. It just wore. him. out.

He stayed where he was for the moment, just taking in the feeling of not waking up alone for a moment. He also liked that she thought she could come here. While he didn’t want her to feel alienated from her world completely (though that damage might have already been done, he didn’t know), he liked that she felt she could come to him. He liked being there for her. He just liked-being with her.

He needed to get up, though, so he took a breath and started to push himself to his feet, sliding out of bed as slowly as possible so as not to wake her. Once she was settled again, he headed towards the shower, looking to finish getting ready for the rest of his day.

By the time Tara actually woke up, Michael was in the kitchen, starting to make breakfast for the two of them. When she came out, she gave him a bit of a pout. “You left me alone in there.”

He gave her a bit of a smile before taking her arm and pulling her closer. “I didn’t want to wake you.” He kissed the top of her head as she leaned in to him, letting her rest against him gently. He could feel her smiling against his shoulder before she looked up at him.

“I could get used to this,” she murmured, and his smile widened before dropped a soft kiss on her nose.

“Me too,” he nodded, before leaning in to kiss her fully, just staying close and enjoying the small moment they had before the world came in again. He pulled back after a minute, and she gave him another pout.

“How long till you have to be at work?”

“Not till after I’ve eaten,” he said with a bit of a look before kissing her cheek and pulling out the chair for her. “Wanna have breakfast with me?”

She grinned at him before settling in the chair with a nod. “Yeah. I would.”
