Yay! First ride of 2013 today. I had an (unintentional) month long break from going over to Sussex to ride Bob the Quarter Horse, so it was nice to be out on him again. He's a nice little horse, and I love that he's also a really grumpy old git. :P Ha.
We explored a newly restored and recently reopened bridleway today and also did a lot more roadwork then usual, which resulted in a 2.5 hour ride. My thighs will probably hate me tomorrow.
I also cycled 20 miles in total. Normally I cheat as Anne, Bob's owner, gives me a lift back to Haslemere which shaves about 5 miles (and a couple of big hills) off my journey, but today she didn't have a car big enough to fit my bike in so I cycled all the way there and all the way back. And of course I had a couple of stables to muck out when I got back to our own livery yard.
I wish I could say this sort of exercise was making me fit, but after regular journeys and hard grafting, I still wheeze and gasp my way up hills like an asthmatic with a damaged ribcage. OH WAIT. -_-
I hate hills. We don't have 'em back 'ome in the fens.
The top of the new bridleway. This part was seriously soggy underfoot, but in summer it will make an amazing canter track. :3
When I say we "did a lot of roadwork" ... well, these are the roads round there.
Bob gets ridiculously sulky and slow when he's not in front. Get over it, ginge.
