First Lesson Today!

Today, my son and I had our first violin lesson! Wa-hey! It went very well, and I liked our new teacher, and I think this is going to be fun!

C was a bit disappointed that we’re not allowed to use our bows for a couple of weeks. Right now, we’re just supposed to be practicing holding the violin in the correct position, plucking (and learning the ( Read more... )

I'm sooo jealous!!
Apart from not having time, I've got zero musical talent... but I'd love to learn to play the cello. But I'm just being silly, because I'll never get to it...

Yay for you and C! I hope you have fun learning together :)

Oh, never say never! :D Hey, I'm picking up a new instrument at my age . . . you've got PLENTY of time! :)

And who says you've got no musical talent? Chances are that you do, but just haven't discovered it yet.

Oh, I know I have no talent. I played the guitar for a while, when I was a kid (but got tired of it, as I'm very inconsistent) .
Mmmm... actually, I was not that bad. Is musical ears what I don't have...
Oh! Don't tempt me, evil woman! Now I want to play the guitar instead of studying! :P

Wheee! I took violin lessons for one semester in high school; I then switched schools and couldn't take it anymore. :( The whole class sounded like cats in heat (30 14-year-old beginners...aaargh!) and I'm sorry I never went any further with the violin. Keep us updated on your and Connor's progress! When I make my list of 43 things I intend to add "play the piano more often and learn tunes other than the ones you played when you were 13".

LOL! I could put that same goal on my list . . . I do play the piano occasionally, but it's almost ALWAYS something I played as a teenager (when I was actually good because I practiced more often than twice a year). :D I think I've added maybe two pieces to my repertoire since then. But it takes TIME to learn something new, and I'm a wimp. :D

Awesome!

Tell Connor that there are plenty of plucking (pizzicato)-only pieces for strings, so even though he's not using his bow yet, he's learning something really cool :-)

Excellent! I think he'll enjoy knowing there's a word for it - I forgot all about pizzicato! :D We already learned one . . . "The Open String Blues." Heh. I'm sure you can imagine what it's like, as the name is very descriptive. NOTHING but open strings. :D
