The Tempest
I had never been to the theatre before and through the whole day I wasn't to sure if I really wanted to go. One of the reasons why I didn't want to go was because I am definately not a fan of William Shakespeare.
While I did enjoy it, I found it was only the dialogue that went straight over my head and disappeared somewhere in the nineth row. It was the atmoshere than anything that made me feel comfortable in my spacious seat next to the stairs. (My pathway to freedom.) I also found that I did concentrate on what was happening on stage the entire evening.
The plot was not that hard to follow, as I thought it might have been. I was lucky to quickly glance over the sheet of paper about each act, that Michael had given us during class. For my part I only read parts of it up to Act IV, before I lost interest.
As I watched the actors in the flesh show their skill in the 'craft of pretend' it did make me sit up and take notice, as that distance voice inside my head yelled; "Come on bro! Get up and lets get outta here while its dark!"
It was the small things that I enjoyed about the play. the improvisation, facial expressions, hand gestures and thier voices. I was amazed how clear they were, from shouting to just been tender.
The only time I was lost, was when the old drunk Stephano and his friend Trincolo entered the stage. But their comical behaviour made me forget who the hell they were until the last act when King Alonso asked the question about where his butler had found the wine.
To me the funniest part of the whole night was when the bloke who acted as Sebastian literally gave Gonzalo a spray that just missed the old guy my millimetres. I think there was more spit on that stage than on some footy fields.
