The only reality TV I followed with passion is the Amazing Race. I didn't know there's also the Asian version of the Amazing Race here on TV until recently. Lower prize money, fewer teams, shorter total season (10 instead of 14?). I followed the rerun of the first season on TV before I start working. I don't get to watch season 3 in real time unfortunately (the regular time my dad wanna watch other things; and the rerun is on at odd hours- definitely won't work for people working 8-5). Several things I noticed...
- They're all so damn nice to each other. You know, when a team was stripped of their money after a non-elimination leg, the other teams pitch in some money. All of them. Not just nice ones. And any sense of competitiveness was viewed as aggressive and rude. Gee. Have they seen the American version?
- The bickering. OMG. The bickering. Some of these people need to be slapped silly. There's this Thai girl who bitched at her American male teammate (who's about a foot taller than her) for not helping her carrying the damn backpack. Her reason? I'm small, and you're so much stronger than me... and she expects him to do all the carrying. Gosh, they're next to last in this latest leg. I hope they're gone soon.
- The rich and famous. One more time I heard any team said something along the line of "I came from families with money and I haven't really (fill in the blank here)"... I might start throwing things at the TV. What are these people thinking? The funny thing is for the team that's really REALLY rich (kinda like the Asian equivalent of Nicole & Paris- you know mixing in the Simple Life a bit), they ROCK!!! No bitching. No complaining. They jump right in, got muddy and dirty, and they seemed to be having the time of their lives. I'm actually rooting for them.
