Being a middle aged woman hitting her sexing peek, I have a simmering interest in human sexuality. Leave it to me to bring you the latest in sex research. No need to thank me.
Broadsheet just posted an article analyzing another massive article in the NYT Sunday Magazine about cutting edge human sexuality research. They are both worth a read, especially if you are into psychology or sex.
A quick summary. Straight guys get turned by women, gay guys by men. Neither into the bonobo sex video. The men indicated this clearly using some sort of lust scale and the physiological measurements confirmed their claims. No real surprises. Women on the other hand... of sweet Jesus ... I'll just quote Salon with comments, "... women were physiologically aroused by a far greater range of sexual images [by this they mean all human on human action AND as a zinger to the bonobo porn as well, those are these little apes that fuck constantly]; however, they were cognitively clueless to that fact [ie they said they were not into it but the physiological indicators were all nah'eh]."
Why this is, is a great mystery. The article is all about the different theories people are tossing around, the leader is narcissism. All I could think reading all this was "Take that all you people who go on about women not being visually aroused. You are wrong and therefore stupid. HA!" It turns out, many woman are just ... un-selfaware.
Now for the too much sharing portion of my post. Fortunately for my self-esteem, I can stand before you with arrogant self-confidence and proclaim I've known for many a year that I'm ... excitable by the sight of a wide range of possiblities AND I will go on about at length when confronted for specifics. I even have the browser history to prove my claims [note to self clear cache soon.] I wonder how I would have done as a research subject. (Oh amorphous spirit of God, why am I not a guinea pig for this sort of research right now?) I think I would have definitely been too embarassed to admit to finding the bonobo sex video a turn on. I have my limits. But the rest, bring it on FOR SCIENCE.
