Damn PS2!

Grrrr.

I bought a copy of Final Fantasy I & II for $10. I used to play FF1 on the original Nintendo (what, 25 years ago?) and loved it, so I ordered this "Remastered Edition." I own a PS2. I didn't notice/bother that this game is for PS1. Most PS1 games have run OK on the PS2... I mean, what kind of crap would that be if the PS2 wouldn't run PS1 games? That would be like Windows95 not running all my old DOS games when it came out... oh, wait...

So, yeah, it's that kind of crap with the PS2. Apparently the laser, the way they set it up in certain PS2's*, won't read PS1 games, and mine's one of those. One can attempt to fix this oneself, if one cares to open up the PS2 and fiddle with the fucking laser.

We ran into this problem once before, but I had completely forgotten it until today. As I recall, we busted the PS2 trying to fix this problem and bought another... the one that I currently have, that now has the same problem. This problem apparently only exists on the larger or "fat" PS2... the "slim" one doesn't have this problem. Of course, I don't exactly have $150 lying around to go buy a slim one just so I can play this $10 game... so, great. Fuck me.

* What's the correct way to refer to multiples of something like PS2? Is it PS2s? PS2's? (I am not a fan of gratuitous apostrophes, but I'm not sure if this one qualifies.) I'm tempted to say "Playstations Two," like "attorneys general," or something....
