Fighter practice.

djsparkydog provoked me into fighting rapier (aka "fencing") yesterday at al-Barran fighter practice. (Ok, it didn't take much provocation.) It's been something like 5.5 years since I did so-- if I remember aright, it was my own last Defender Tourney while I was Baron in Dragonsspine, around June 2003... I did the "Iron Baron" that day, fighting heavy, fighting rapier and shooting target archery.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that I hadn't completely forgotten how to fight rapier. ("The pointy end goes in the other man.") I'm rusty but not too bad at heavy right now, and much of that skill still translates. "Fighting is fighting," Don Christian used to say, and he was right. The rest came back to me pretty quickly. It was a blast, and I didn't embarrass myself too badly, and actually killed a couple of people in some fairly sexy ways.

I fought schlager & buckler. Long-distance thanks are due to _subdivisions_, who pretty much taught me that style almost 10 years ago in Dragonsspine. (And say "Hi and thanks!" to Chris for me too, wouldya?)

It's still too bad that heavy & rapier practices have to happen at the same darn time. I'd love to do both.
