Today, Casey Whynot, possibly the sweetest dog I've ever met, passed away at age 7 (somewhere from 40-50 developmentally). She had spent the last about five days throwing up, it was assumed she had the flu as she had had before, only to find out that after seeing the vet yesterday that she was in end-stage diabeties and there was little that could be done for her. She was put down this morning instead of making her suffer even more as the disease slowly killed her.
Because, of the kind of dog she was, always happy to see you, always (literally) with a smile on her face, always wagging her tail - no one noticed exactly how sick she was until it was too late, she kept up such a strong front. Even to the very last day when I'd come talk to her she'd wag her tail and look straight at me, and she got to spend some of her last moments out in the snow which always made her happy. It's going to be difficult for everyone to be here without her, she kept Tam's father company when everyone was at work, and she was always there every morning when you woke up happy to see you. This morning was the first morning, in the 3 and a half years I've known Tam and her family, where she hasn't been there and I already deeply miss her.
I'm gonna try and find some good pics of her and post them, to show any of you that never had the good fortune of meeting her even a fraction of the dog she was.
I don't know how many of you out there are dog lovers, or animal lovers, or not, but please if you're not - respect my and the feelings of any others that post here. Not to say people will do this, but I'm just warning that any such comments will just be deleted.
*NOTE*:Just incase you're wondering, this is being simul-blogged over on my blogger blog.
