wow...
I was supposed to get back to shanghai yesterday. We get to the airport in changchun and find the counter for shanghai. luckily we had a chinese friend with us, because there was a handwritten note that said something like "all flights to shanghai canceled because of typhoon" gaaa! We start looking at trains back, which is ironic because when we were trying to take a train TO changchun it was delayed for 10 hours, so we took a plane instead. Then we find out the train is going to take 30 hours. In the end we fly into Nanjing, which is 2.5 hours away from shanghai, but we miss the train, so we have to stay overnight. Finallly this morning we take the train back. Just being in this country is turning out to be an education.
Jack tried buying some pokemon game for his gameboy, but it turned out to be EXACTLY mario, except with the mario character replaced by a green puffball *thing*. Then we saw some dvds in Changchun so we bought them. We tried watching Fantastic four (the human torch) which hasn't come out here yet, but it was in... SPANISH. We put on subtitles, but they were from... A DIFFERENT MOVIE which was so funny we decided to keep them on, then found out they couldn't be turned off. The movie was something about hungarian kids in a bad school who resort to violence to solve their problems, and contained liberal use of the F word. So when the four are talking the subtitles say things like, "Time for class." "I don't want to go mr b." "F*** you", "I'm going to blow this F****ing place up" At one point someone walked across the movie. Not in the movie, across the movie. Like dark shadow in a movie theater. I think you get the point. When I revised this section, I remembered that every email going out of china gets scanned by the government. so I took out the boot-pierna word, If you know what I mean.
