second day of second stint

today I went to yoga, at this studio I've been going to in east village, just off houston street. then I went to whole foods, which I kind of hate but it's the only organic/marginally ethical supermarket near me so I keep going there. I had an overpriced but pretty delicious lunch from their hot bar (biryani, tikka masala, some sort of creamy vege curry and a potato samosa) and then tried to do my 'weekly shopping', which is really only lasts me three days because I'm unable to plan that many meals ahead and everything I buy is perishable.

after all that, which took me a stupidly long time (like four hours?!) I went to the lincoln plaza cinema to see the new doco about ai weiwei. it was pretty great; there were a lot of interviews with his family members, other artists, and friends from his youth. it wasn't just focused on the political aspect of his life/work. did you know that ai weiwei lived in nyc for 12 years and lived in the lower east side? there was this one great shot of ai returning to nyc on a recent trip, and wrapping like four pastrami sandwiches, pickles, onion rings and chips to take back to his hotel room to eat later haha.

the director was there at the screening too, which was pretty cool (I didn't know she was going to be there). it was one of those real nyc moments for me. I forget that nyc is a big creative hub and that thousands of successful artists, directors and musicians live and work here.

so I've been trying to do some creative writing. I'm going to a workshop tomorrow evening, which should be fun. I like hearing what other writers are writing about - it's always such a mixed bag.

I feel pretty rusty after not having written in a while. I guess with uni I always had essays to do so my written expression got a bit of a workout every now and then. but this year I've hardly done any, so I'm easing back into it. I think keeping a journal is a good start. I also have a notebook where I record all my creative ideas. I always thought doing stuff like that was unnecessary but it really helps.
