Mmmm....Ozzfest. :-)
Definitely satisfying, especially for free. We were a little late because Kam was late and Mike and I just decided to leave anyways and forget about him picking us up. the drive was alright until we actually got to our exit. It was backed up so far that people were waiting in the highway. It took us probably an hour to get from our spot on I-75 to actually just getting into the entrance, let alone finding a parking spot. It was a nightmare.
We missed Daath and In This Moment, but I got to hang out with ITM later on. Watched 3 Inches of Blood, and then got on the Monster tour bus and got to hang with ITM, Static X, and Jamey Jasta of Hatebreed and got him to sign a poster for me. He's a really cool guy and so appreciative of his fans. Almost all the bands started talking to me about my Testament shirt. Ha it's weird to get complimented by the band and not the other way around. Unfortunately Maria from ITM didn't come out, but I got the rest of them to sign a poster for me. Holly ended up getting on the Monster bus too, so it was good to see her again. I hadn't seen her since Harry Potter opening night at BN.
Devildriver, Behemoth, and a few others took the stage for a while, but I'm not really a fan of any of them. Hatebreed FINALLY came on and about 5 girls in the crowd decided to flash them. Awesome set, played some older stuff and also a lot off Supremacy. Hatebreed is so appreciative of their fans and the pits were, as expected, pretty brutal. My head hurts. Ha.
Main Stage started afterwards, but when walking by the boardwalk, Josh, Mike and I heard a bunch of people yelling, so we assumed someone was walking through the crowd. Well, we get there and find out that it's the entire hill yelling at the girls that pass by to flash them. This was about 200 men (and some women, too) and it was hilarious. We missed all of Lordi and most of Static X, but when we came back over the hill, we were shocked to see how many people were actually there. It was unbelievable. There must have been 30,000 people along that hill. The pits started and it was absolute chaos. Massive circle pits in the mud and people were tearing up the lawn and hurling massive strips of it across the crowd. That entire lawn is destroyed.
Lamb of God, of course, did incredible. Vigil was so amazing. That entire hill was on fire with lighters. And they always have the most incredible light show. I'm not a big fan of Blythe with longer hair though. But they played stuff from all their albums and it was definitely comparative to Gigantour last year. Maybe even better. But Ozzy was on next. Zakk Wylde is the only man that can go on stage with a old jean vest, a grizzly beard that puts everyone to shame, and a KILT. Mama I'm Comin Home was beautiful, and of course Crazy Train. Zakk did like a 10-minute guitar solo that included a Hendrix-fueled version of Star Spangled Banner. Ozzy sprayed the crowd with a shaving cream gun and had and entire spray of water that came from the light fixture.
We took our time leaving because we knew the parking lot was going to be a nightmare. Mike and I walked around and into the lot with the tour buses and got to see Randy Blythe and Willie Adler. Ha poor Willie, he had some drunk fangirl hanging all over him trying to get in his pants and trying to get a job as the merch person. Although...he took her on to the tour bus, so she might have "gotten the job" or just thinks she did. Ha. I was so out of it and had such a bad headache I mistook Willie for Chris. I didn't know this, of course, until today when Mike told me.
Long drive home, I was in and out of sleep. Mike and I stopped at Taco Bell, I went home, and took like 3 Tylenol PM's. I was out cold until 10 am. I came down the stairs and my mom just looked at me and said "It's before noon, what are you doing up?" But I wasn't too out of it, I knew I had enough sleep because I was sleeping so hard.
The last show I've been to was Sounds in NJ and seeing that big black second stage kind of reminded me of it. Made me think about Monica all day. I really want to go out to the east coast again. Road trip to New York and at least stop In Jersey for a few days. I miss her so much and I feel like I didn't even really get to do anything last time I was out there. I really hope I can make it out there sometime this winter. The plan is spending 2 weeks in California with Bell and her husband sometime next summer. Hopefully we can make that work.
Anyways, it's like 12:30 and I'm gonna crash. Goodnight my friends.
