This one's been rattling around in my head for ages and finally agreed to be finished. To celebrate, I made a new icon to go with it.
Many thanks to
jenthetypsy for her beta work on the fic and to
geek_mama_2 for being my title beta!

First off - new icon = made of awesome! Extremely well done creepified and squirmy icon, absolutely perfect for this fic.
Secondly - title = whoa! I love that I learn so many things from my fandoms! I never would have thought of a word like that!
Thirdly - fic = chilling! Very well done, too. You finally stared the beast down, didn't you? Excellent work, and I don't know if I told you before how much I like the voice of the crone. There is a decided rhythm to her speech which comes through very well in print.
The image of Jack limp as a rag doll is so vivid, making this whole story very real indeed. The cramped room filled with the heat of the night and the stink of putrid flesh - very descriptive (and more than slightly stomach-turning as well!). To hear how upset Gibbs is by Jack's unnatural stillness is also very daunting. A still Sparrow may as well be a dead Sparrow.
The most chilling of the entire chilling fic for me were these lines: May could be burns, or somethin' boiling hot tricklin' down the arm," she said while making a minor adjustment to the bandage. "Could ha' been cut wit somethin' not made for cuttin', or could ha' been sommun cut wi' a nice sharp knife an' tried to take the skin for themself." "Could ha' been cut wit somethin' not made for cuttin'..." That right there absolutely makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end!
And dear Gibbs, so stricken with worry that he can't even spin a yarn - now that is a telling sign. Congrats for finally exposing this pesky beast to the light of day - it is a great bit of back story!

*giggles* Uh oh, getting your Jacks mixed up! But it can be easy to do - the year Lost S1 was airing, I noticed that every show I watched had a character named Jack...
I do love the new icon. Once the idea occurred, of course I had to do it, but it took ages to find the screen cap. And am delighted that you like the title - you, more than anyone else, know how I struggle for them.
Am quite happy you liked my old healer, her voice and her speculations, and that limp Jack was unsettling. Thank you so much for your lovely comments, especially after all the time it took me to finish. *hugs*
