When Yunho woke on the 26th of January, he knew that it was a very important day. Only thing was, for the life of him he couldn’t figure out why.

Yunho racked his brain trying to remember what made the day so special and came up with nothing. Eventually, he pushed the idea to the back of his mind, hoping to be struck with inspiration before it was too late.

“Everything’s ready for tonight, just as you planned it hyung,” Changmin said, poking his head through the door of the workroom, where Yunho was practicing their latest routine. Changmin looked at his watch briefly as he turned to leave.

“Shouldn’t you be heading out to Kyungkido to pick up Jae hyung from his mother’s? You need to get back by 7 so that everything goes according to plan.”

Changmin was gone before Yunho could ask him exactly what plan they were following.

--

Jaejoong was sitting on the front steps of his mother’s house with his younger sister when Yunho arrived. He looked up, a bright smile lighting his face, as Yunho parked the car and stepped out, walking toward them.

JiYoung ran over to Yunho, hugging him tightly and raising herself to her tiptoes to whisper in his ear, “I didn’t tell him a thing, oppa! I told you I could keep a secret.” She winked at him, smiling mischievously.

She certainly could: Yunho had no idea what she was talking about.

Jaejoong was speaking quietly to his mother when Yunho and JiYoung joined them. He hugged his mother and sister one last time before turning and slipping his hand into Yunho’s, clasping it tightly in greeting.

“I’ll see you again soon, Jaejoong oppa?” JiYoung said. Jaejoong smiled at her.

“I’ll try, Jiyoung. We’ll see.”

JiYoung tried to hide a smile, glancing quickly at Yunho.

He was still confused.

--

It was 6:15 p.m when Yunho and Jaejoong arrived back in Seoul, and 6:45 p.m when Yunho parked the car in the underground parking area of their apartment complex.

They took the elevator to the seventh floor and walked to their apartment. Yunho unlocked the door and they entered, staring around the silent pitch-dark apartment.

“I wonder where the others went off to,” Yunho mused out loud.

Suddenly, the lights switched on and several people jumped out from their hiding places.

“SURPRISE!”

Yunho and Jaejoong both jumped visibly at the sudden activity.

Oh.

Now Yunho remembered what was so important about the 26th of January.

--

Confused, Jaejoong stared at the collection of people in his home. Junsu, Yoochun and Changmin smiled at him from where they clustered together in the tiny kitchen doorway. His eight older sisters were ranged around the room, five of them giggling madly from behind the kitchen counter while the youngest three poked their heads out from the hallway leading to the rest of the apartment.

“What - Why are you all here? What’s going on?” Jaejoong asked.

Just then, the doorbell rang. Yunho opened the door, and Jiyoung bounced in, followed by her mother. Jiyoung made a beeline for her brother hugging him tightly around the waist.

“Happy Birthday, oppa!” She said.

The confusion melted from Jaejoong’s face.

“It’s my birthday…”

“Of course it is!” Changmin said, as he entered the living room. “You didn’t forget did you?”

Jaejoong hung his head. “Well…”

“What? You forgot? I remember when you were seven years old and you’d go around reminding everyone of your birthday for weeks beforehand.” Jaejoong’s fifth sister piped up.

“Nuna!” Jaejoong said, his voice pleading with her to stop telling stories.

“Well, if you forgot, I guess we can just give this cake of yours to Changmin. He’s been eyeing it since we brought it this afternoon.” Jaejoong’s foster mother carried a large chocolate cake with her as she left the kitchen followed by Jaejoong’s father.

“Umma? Appa?” Jaejoong hugged his mother as she rested the cake on the dining table. “You’re here too? Did you do all this?”

She laughed. “I just baked the cake, darling. Yunho organized everything.”

Yunho smiled slightly as Jaejoong turned to him.

“You did this?” Yunho nodded. Jaejoong gazed around the room at his biological, foster and Dong Bang Families all gathered together.

He turned back to Yunho. “I-” he paused, trying to control the hitch in his voice. He threw himself at Yunho, hugging him tightly. “Thank you,” he whispered into Yunho’s neck.

“Aaawwwwww!” Jaejoong’s eight older sisters chorused together. Jaejoong looked up, wiping briskly at his wet eyes before glaring at the women. Everyone else laughed, Junsu collapsing into a fit of giggles against Yoochun. Jaejoong grabbed a pillow from the sofa and threw it at him.

“If everyone’s finished laughing at hyung, can we eat?” Changmin interrupted. “I haven’t eaten in almost two hours!”

--

Later that night, after Jaejoong’s relatives had returned home and the kitchen had been cleaned up; Yunho and Jaejoong sat curled up against each other on the sofa. Jaejoong entangled his fingers in Yunho’s, staring at the matching rings they wore.

“I don’t know how you were able to organize everything without me finding out, but - Thank you so much, Yunhoyah.” Jaejoong tilted his neck backwards, placing a gentle kiss upside-down on Yunho’s lips.

“Even if you did forget my birthday.”

--

END.
I'm not totally pleased with it, but I wanted to contribute to the party. I hope you enjoyed and comment, please ;P
