After my little excursion with Britney and we went our separate ways, I decided to find myself my own kind of trouble. The night was still young and there were plenty of souls that wouldn't be missed, who am I to turn down such a delicious offer? Really though with the Senior Partners out of the way and me in charge of Wolfram & Hart (AKA Evil Capital of the World), I couldn't have it better. Angel out of my hair running around so frantically trying to find his precious little Faith. If he had kept a better eye on her ... wait I guess he did keep his eyes on her, or Angelus did. One in the same and I wasn't about to go around placing blame and I think I already did that with my little discussion with Buffy. Surprised a hell of a lot she wasn't barking up my tree and demanding answers as to where Faith was. Truth be told even I didn't know where they'd dropped Faith and if it was an inner personal kind of hell? Count me out. I don't need to witness her pain and suffering in life, why? It was already written all over her face.
I strolled up to my office after exiting the elevator and noticed my secretary wasn't there and it was time for her to be. The office was pretty much deserted, the sun not having come up yet but still Jessica should be here. I cautiously walked into my office and covered my mouth in surprise as my eyes took in the length of Jessica's body swinging from my ceiling. I wasn't sure who was behind this but there was a definite clue as to why she was hanging in my office. Carved into her chest deep enough to not miss was the following: "White Room. NOW." Who in the hell would be ballsy enough to kill my secretary and leave a note carved in her flesh. Angelus. My body stilled for a moment and then I relaxed, there was no way he was going to fuck this up ever again. He's gone.
I was still a bit apprehensive as the elevator doors slid open and I entered the White Room my eyes scanning nervously. I walked around the enormous room until I heard a voice behind me that caused me to turn to see who it was. What I saw was a bit surprising really and at the same time not. Buffy's figure strode toward me and hit me with such force my body flew through the air and I slammed into the wall hard before making contact with the ground.
"You're not real, I know that. You are a projected image from my mind, what I wanted to see. So you going to tell me where Faith is or do I have to kick your ass?" I asked harshly as I pulled myself up to my feet and dusted off the front of my skirt. She stood there with a cold smile on her thin lips and shook her head at me in disgust.
"All these years Alyx and look at you." She spat out angrily. "Nothing but a chance happening really, you got lucky. Someone killed the Senior Partners and you what? Win by default, how does that make you feel?" A cold laugh travelled up and out into the echoing space as I glared at her angrily.
"Words, just words. I've worked for everything I've got, which is more than I can say about you. Always hiding behind Angel's skirt tail and trying to blame everything on Faith." I stepped closer to her and smirked madly. "At least I've changed and grown but you, you're just a has been wash up flunky of a Slayer that has no general control over herself. You use the excuses of having to look after other people, maybe you shouldn't sound so repetitive when you tell the gang to stay behind. I mean wouldn't it be faster to let them come with you and die so you can be free?"
"At least you've grown and changed? Umm... newsflash, you're Immortal. You will never grow or change or love or feel because someone long ago took your soul away from you. Now? Now you spend your days sucking down the cheapest dirtiest souls in the world, doesn't that make you a cheap whore? Fundamentally of course." Buffy's voice carried the small distance between us and I already had my fist ready when she disappeared. I whipped around looking for something, someone, anything really and when I finally did it was a naked female form laying on the floor a few feet from me. I walked over carefully and nudged her with no successful movement. Was she dead?
