So, it would appear that I have actually managed to attend classes at a four-year college. My loan has gone through and they've even received the money for such classes. I still haven't had my physical, which I'm technically supposed to have by the end of this month, but I figure they probably won't drag me out of the classroom if I get it done fairly soon...although thanks to a glitch with my supposed "primary care manager" I'm not sure how soon it will happen.
I am currently in the middle of a week from hell. Out of five classes (which keep me plenty busy with just the regular nightly homework), I have papers/presentations due in four of them (and 2 in one class) within the span of seven days. I also found out yesterday that I need to jump through a bunch of hoops so as to apply to the teacher certification program by Tuesday. Being that that involves getting a Praxis waiver from the state, which requires having an official copy of my SAT scores sent to them, which takes anywhere from 3-5 weeks, it's a pretty daunting task. Today and yesterday I had to scramble around, back to Brooklyn/Danielson to visit old teachers from QV and before for recommendations and transcripts and the like...and earlier I had to pray that one of my English teachers at Eastern would write me a recommendation, despite only having known me for four weeks. (Luckily, she said she would.) Basically at this point the only things I have left to do for that are to actually fill out the form and write the essay, which shouldn't take long. All I can do is hope that they get enough of what they need by the time they need it and don't disqualify me for the parts they won't get (namely, the Praxis waiver). I'll also have to pray that I suddenly remember how to write an essay, because as I discovered trying to write one of my papers last night, and am discovering again while trying to write this entry...my writing skills have gotten a little rusty.
What's nice about one of my presentations is that it's a group project, and it turns out one of the people in my group lives a mere three buildings down in the apartment complex (what a stroke of luck), so when we have to get together to work on it, I either won't or will barely have to leave home. And, one paper and project I got out of the way this afternoon, which is a relief - basically the two 4 page papers are the only things I really have to worry about, and being that they're both just meant to be rough drafts, if they aren't good (or even if they aren't exactly finished in their entirety) it'll be okay.
Anyone who has gotten this far in this entry will probably be terrified to know that I'm an English major.
Also, a confession: today, I skipped my first class. I didn't really want to, but if I hadn't there's no way I could have prepared my presentation for my later class, or gotten things lined up for my teacher cert app. In the end, I think those were considerably more important than one child development class, but I'll have to remember that I can't miss that class again this semester.
Basically, weeks like this make dropping out of school, working at wal mart for five years or becoming a housewife really attractive prospects. Too bad that John probably wouldn't let me. ;)
