[Sarcastic amusement is heavy in his voice. Occasionally, very occasionally, humanity manages to impress him. It is most definitely not doing so now.]

Far be it from me to advise anyone on a course of action. Yet I cannot help but wonder why, precisely, the resources of a fishing town are not being utilized, both in regards to the lack of food and ( Read more... )

Someone with a brain in this town. How surprising.

There's always at least one somewhere, if you've a mind to look.

It is easier to assume everyone is of a lower I.Q. and be pleasantly amused when people prove me otherwise. It almost gives me a flash of something less than hope.

A wise way to deal with the trials and tribulations of living among simple-minded idiots. I've been entertaining the notion of hope for quite a long time, and as of yet, I've found no evidence to suggest that it shall ever be fulfilled.

That is more than I will ever entertain. You obviously have far more patience than I. Humans are quite like animals. Some of them manage to impress, but only a very few.

I've had an inordinate amount of time to cultivate that patience, though it runs out rather quickly. Still, perhaps you are the most fortunate among the two of us. I've yet to meet a human capable of making a positive impression.

I apologize, I failed to mention that when I am impressed, it is not in a positive way. It is more in a: "I am honestly surprised you went to those lengths to accomplish something" way.

The very few humans I have met and conversated with have never left me feeling positive about the experience.

I don't know whether to be relieved that the status quo hasn't been upset or disappointed that humanity has, once again, failed to live up to its potential. Perhaps a mixture of both would be the more honest reaction.

I wouldn't go quite that far. Merely, I'm simply indulging in feeling anything at all.

[Vergil makes an amused noise, but it's not a chuckle.] It is best to remain neutral then to indulge.

After eons, even neutrality loses something of its luster. Still, caring, one way or another, takes effort I can't quite convince myself is warranted.

I do hope I do not share the same sentiments in a millenia. Caring about the humans as a race is an action I wish never to partake in.

I suspect they'll destroy themselves long before that becomes a problem for either of us.
