Who: James Norrington and anyone in the S-Mart
When: Day 54, morning
Where: S-mart
What: it may be reckless, but Norrington is determined to investigate the strange and unnatural light he and Archie saw.
Rating: Probably PG to PG-13. Also, fair warning: it's tl;dr after I talked about how I try very hard not to tl;dr posts. Gimme a break though. I'm boredly sitting in the middle of a windy field with not much to do!

James hadn't told anyone on the ship that he was leaving. It would have resulted in people volunteering to go with him purely because of his title, surely, and he didn't want to bring undue risk to anyone again. Besides, he was quite confident in his ability to take down these bloody monsters. He was equipped with his pistol and sword and that was damn well all he needed.

However, early into his trip ashore, James realized he had more than just cackling demons to contend with. A horrifying creature, both armless and faceless, had come lurching at him from behind the curtain of fog. He'd barely had time to spin towards the thing, thrusting his sword at its belly, before it vanished. Yes, as quickly as the thing had come, it was gone again.

Whether a delusion or another demon, it had shaken him dearly. Perhaps even more so than the invisible thing had. For a moment he doubted his decision to go out alone, considered turning back, but finally decided that someone had to investigate this place. There were answers out there, somewhere.

Eventually he caught the strange light in the distance. Just as before, it shone dimly through the fog, but steadier and still brighter than a flame ever could. The sight spurred him on, and his pace quickened. Without incident he passed the place where Archie had killed the demon before, though he did hear the telltale peal of laughter somewhere in the distance.

Only a few steps more and he would find the light's source.

The laughter grew louder, and a second answered it from somewhere to James's right. If only could reach the light before these monsters reached him! He went faster. With each step, the light grew brighter, but, in turn, the cackling, louder.

And then he saw it: an impossibly lit-up building came unto view, proudly emblazoned "S-Mart" and unlike anything James had ever laid eyes on before. It was so startlingly bright and colorful, like something from a children's story. Something dreamed up.

He barely had time to be surprised by it, though, thanks to the demonic laughter around him. He ducked inside the place without hesitation, only to discover, after a moment's recovery, that the inside was even more bizarre than the outside. He crept slowly forward, pistol cocked and ready, peering at the strange collection of items on display. The air in this place, he noted, was pleasantly cool and very, very abnormal.

He didn't like it.

james norrington, hope
