sing underneath your breath and always listen

So I updated the lj comm layout a few moons ago - and I'll probably update it again with another splash image, since I have since acquired a few more gorgeous pictures of Maki, Meisa, Rina and et al ~. But for now, enjoy the summer layout.

I'll be gone visiting friends from Wednesday on -- not that I've been updating so frequently here that you'd miss my absence (grin).

Meanwhile, a Sweet Power roundup (mostly Meisa-oriented as 2009 is proving to be Meisa's year just as 2007-2008 heavily favored Maki)

from kawaii joyuu:

It’s been announced today that actress Kuroki Meisa (21) is going to play the heroine in the latest play adaption of Tsuka Kouhei’s masterpiece "Hiryuuden", called "Hiryuuden 2010: The Last Princess".

The play is set during the violent student movements following the US-Japan Security Treaty. Kuroki is going to play Kanbayashi Michiko, a committee chairwoman who has to put out fires on all ends, and her complete devotion to her lover Yamasaki Ippei, a commanding officer of the riot police. The play is going to contain many extreme scenes including the loss of Michiko’s virginity. In the past Uchida Yuki (33) and Hirosue Ryoko (29) already used this role to successfully break away from their former image of an "innocent idol" actress.

Meisa enrolled into the "Kitaku Tsuka Kouhei Gekidan", a theatrical troupe under the supervision of Tsuka at the age of 15. In 2004 she had her debut on a stage and now she’s returning back to her roots. Tsuka about Meisa, "Back then she still had the weak body of a child, lacked skills, was sensitive and would easily strain her vocal cords, I had to train her really timidly. This time I won’t need to hold back for sure and I’m looking forward to work with her again."

Tsuka’s plays always have a lot of variation and scenes with very hectic lines, not everyone can keep up with the intensity and eventually crumbles under the pressure. "I’m returning to the starting point of my career with the purpose of going back to study, starting back at zero I’d like to learn a lot more things." Kuroki said about her original intentions of returning back under the supervision of Tsuka.

Performances will begin at the Shinbashi Theater of Tokyo in February 2010.

Add in Meisa's appearance in Assault Girls, the recent release of LOVE MEISA, Shock, miscellaneous CMs, the ongoing drama Ninkyo Helper, and Dance! Subaru out on DVD in September, along with the usual assorted appearances in magazines: JJ, Ans 25, SPUR (with Mika Ninagawa helming the photoshoot!) Meisa is absolutely the girl of Summer.

Maki went abroad to shoot pictures for her new calendar, filmed another CM, will be reprising her role as Luke in the theatrical release of the Professor Layton anime, and will most likely start the press junket for Nakushita Kioku for its fall release in Japan. In case you've forgotten, Kenichi Matsuyama and Tegoshi Yuya are her co-stars, along with Anton Yelchin (Star Trek, Terminator: Salvation), and Mirei Kiritani is also along for the ride.

Mirei will be appearing in August's OTOMEN with fellow Hana Kimi alumni Ryo Kimura, Okada Masaki, and has already (or will?) started hosting her chat/variety show with other SEVENTEEN models. And of course, continuing her day job as one of SEVENTEEN's featured models (and apparently going to university at the same time)

Nao Minamisawa is currently appearing in Dandy Daddy!, which other than featuring the dad from that Freaky Friday redux with Yui Aragaki drama, a wee Sweet Power kohai playing Nao's character in the flashbacks, and an Ayumi Hamasaki song as the theme, and of course, Nao - doesn't have all that much going for it. But I only managed to watch one episode, so who knows, it might have gotten better? Nao has university starting up soon though, so I hope she and SP pick a better project in the interim.

Nanami Sakuraba is breaking hearts and taking names in Futatsu no Spica, which looks like it'll end up on the list of Sweet Power dramas that showcase the girls just before they break out (Seito Shokun, Akai Ito being the two others) with one of the kohai Hikari Kikuzato ably guesting, and with one episode left of the seven to air in Japan remaining. Meanwhile, the oddly compelling abomination that is Koishite Akuma is airing, and even though Nanami has to fight through an inexplicably scripted attention-crushing OTP, Yuma Nakayama's pained stares of longing and his emo hoodie, Rosa Kato's deranged cheerfulness, and the tragic dial-down of Kyo Nobuo's utter FABULOUSNESS, and two more JE!Fetuses and ...Matchy...she's holding up well as can be expected in a thankless role.

Just remember, Nanami - I don't care what he says, don't let Yuma show you his sweet emotion. HE'S ONLY FIFTEEN, OH MY GOD.

The kohai continue to be unspeakably adorable and wee.

meisa kuroki, sweet power ftw, meisa needs no backdancers, kohai, maki has cute boy flunkies
