Oh man. I think I will try and bring livejournal back. Good way to keep people up to date on my life. Who’s with me! Plus its Friday afternoon and work, for once, is slow.
January drive west:
First I want to say, packing up and moving cross county to San Francisco is probably the best decision I have made in my entire life. I felt so stuck in NY and the east coast. What easier way to get out of that rut that to just pack up and go. Takes some balls to move that far away without a plan, but I don’t regret it for a second. I haven’t looked back since I began my dirve. A really good friend of mine, Joanna, from college, also moved out here around the same time as me. Knowing someone in the area has definitely helped. We hang out all the time, are making new friends together and chilling on the beach all the time :-)
The drive cross county was beyond an amazing experience and I recommend everyone do it at least once. I stopped in Chicago for a few days to visit my good friend Megan, from college. We had a blast. It was good to see an old friend. The Midwest is really boring so bring lots of books on taps and Red Bulls. I stopped in Colorado to visit a super super old friend. Little side story/recap: When I was about 10 years old, my aunt, her friend, friend’s daughter, my brother and I went to Florida for two weeks. The three of us are about the same age. After Florida we stayed in contact via letters over the few years to follow, but of course just lost touch. So, she goes to school in Colorado and I gave her a call. I stayed with her for two days and it was amazing! I haven’t spoke to her in about 8 years but it seemed like we were friends the whole time. Not this blog, but maybe next I’ll post pictures of my 3,000 mile drive to Cali.
Job now:
I got a job with McCann Erickson about a month ½ of being jobless / homeless and living on my great uncles blow up mattress in the spare bedroom. No complaints though because it was free housing, food and golfing. McCann Erickson is a really big marketing and ad agency. They have done all the advertising for Halo 3, Office 08:Mac as well as all the HP campaigns, just to name a few. They do TV commercials, banners, billboards, online ads and microsites (
http://www.zunejourney.net/ and
http://www.leftvsright.com/ are the two recent big ones). I am working as an Interactive Developer so I primary deal with coding websites, online banners and the back end marketing that goes with it. Currently I am working on the Gears of War 2 promo site and Brand Voice for Microsoft. My job is absolutely amazing. I really like the people I work with, all younger and more my own age and I enjoy coming into work and don’t dread it. Also once a month, our department goes out for open bar happy hour. At least a few times a week I get lunch provided and of course there is free starbucks. It’s the little things that make it that much better, not to mention the 20 vacation days I get.
I work right in the heart of downtown San Francisco, but live more south outside the city. It takes me about a half hour from the time I walk out the door to walking into the office. I get to take the train into work every day. It’s nice because I save sooo much on gas, get to relax, read and not have to be conscious as if I were to drive.
Living now:
It is also nice living "outside" downtown San Francisco to help get away and have more of a suburb setting. I really enjoy the convenience of my car. Public transportation takes forever to do anything. With having the car I don't feel confined to the city and can go anywhere. Also I live really close to Target, Best Buy, Circuit City and a nice big mall. What more could I ask for!
I live in a big townhouse with two other people. Both of them are 26 years old. The girl, I just about never see because she comes home around 11 at night and I leave before her in the morning. She works for a news station and has later hours. The guy, Monzi, is super fun, sweet and we have a lot in common. I really like hanging out with him. He works about the same hours I do so we generally hang out at night and cook dinner together.
So before I write an entire essay, I’ll stop here for now. Next blog will be more on what fun things I have done since being out here.
If I keep going with this, who will read it? Post a comment with your thoughts/concerns. Cheers!
