I appreciate that people want to create an open arts community by posting their short stories for free on the internet, but is there a reason that literally every single one has to be poorly-written and socially awkward science fiction ( Read more... )

You've already left a legacy in my heart.

On a more productive note, I think that the truly important thing is to do what makes you happy. I'm learning that myself, since I think I may just flush my Smith degree down the drain and go to school to become a sign language interpreter. Of the same vein (doing what makes me happy), Ceilidh and I recently discussed more seriously the possibility of living in Paris for a couple of months this spring. =DDD

Also, I thought your thesis was lovely and the judgmental French jury can suck it.

Thanks so much, Jamie!! Words cannot describe how happy I would be to have y'all here!! But even though you are far away from me, it would make me happiest to know you're doing what makes you happiest.

You're absolutely right, it's just my big problem right now is that I'm not really sure what makes me happy, at least not in a "I want to pursue this as a career" way. When I think in those terms, I pretty much end up with useless daydreams like "boy, I'd love to move to the countryside and make cheese and be surrounded by fluffy animals and under-age Asian boys." Welp. You know.

But that's why I've decided to try and explore some different avenues this summer, and hopefully that will lead me somewhere more useful.

Your support is more than appreciated, it makes my freaking day. <3 <3 <3

Also, you know I'm going to say something like this, but I think it should be said: unless you wake up with extreme retroactive amnesia, your Smith degree will never go down the drain. At least not in the paths that you will choose, because you are not the kind of girl who's gonna get pragnint and work as a phone operator for the rest of your life. Okay, maybe then I'd argue that a degree was going down the drain. But doing good for the world, which seems to come naturally (if not super-naturally!) to you, is the best use possible of the knowledge you've gained.
