the brick...
certain shows i watch start and end with monologues from the main characters... this was a gem from last week's grey's anatomy episode:
"You gotta wonder why we cling to our expectations.
The expected is just what keeps us steady; standing; still.

The unexpected... is what changes our lives."
on our planned napa trip for a haircut and target shopping, andy and i discussed how certain things in our lives just seemed to fall into place... these things weren't planned, or instigated by our own actions... one would argue that certain aspects of our lives currently have been, unexpected...
i've noticed that the moment i stop proactively seeking what i wanted most in life, those things just happened to fall in my lap moments later...
it turns out that this newfound observation goes well with my passive personality... and it makes me laugh inside...
funny how life works, huh? to just sit back and watch, to see how the magic works...
life...

to finish off last night, the basketball game was okay... josh cancelled on me, but megan was really awesome in keeping me company... holy names was an aggressive opponent, so it seemed like the guys were intimidated by them... i was sending periodic commentary text messages to cory, who was out studying... the guys were able to close the large gap at some point, but still lost... it was too bad...
afterwards, we got together in darrin's room to watch "the prestige..." didn't plan on it becoming an event, but it did... andy, josh, darrin, ryan vos, and i watched... that movie's slow enough to keep your pulse down, but intense enough to keep you watching, wondering what was going to happen next... great movie, crazy twist at the end... i sorta saw one of them coming, but it was still surprising how it ended...
also played a really late game of settlers... the movie finished at roughly 1:30, and our game finished around 3:30...
*"i'd like to... solve the puzzle..." josh and andy literally gasping for air, after minutes of laughter... cory and i wondering what was so hilarious...
*cory "invading a girls' night out," and needed to hang out with the guys...
*throwing a brick on cory's laptop...
*"john saw da numbah, dat no man could numbah..."
*trying to make sure no two segments on the rubik's cube were the same...
*"anything is possible, if you look this cool... ... ... i'm obviously the only one who memorized barbie songs when i was younger..."
*threatening to end josh's life... and use his face as a mask, to scare people...
*"BRICK YEAH!"
*"what the brick?"
*"i settled there first! ... ... ... can i just move this settlement? it just makes things easier..." ::john moves settlement over one segment::
*deducing that josh and andy would be happy drunks, while cory and i would be angry drunks...
*cory winning... pretty close game... i actually got 7 points (2 wins, 15 losses)... geez, my record REALLY sucks...
going to bed at 4 o'clock... yup, that's what college life is about...
