I am so angry right now! Actually I was angry and I need to put my rant up. There was an article in the times about how your genes are thought to play a role in love and attraction and blah blah blah. It drives me up the wall though when people but these sensationalist claims on papers that really don't prove anything. People were going around daying that this article proved that gayness was programmed into your genes. While I can certainly see that genes might affect your sexual preferences, we're so far from really proving that! These articles are NOT from peer reviewed journals, they are NOT wholey accurate and they take the big bottom line of papers to make fancy headlines.

There's so many examples of this. Newspapers catch that apples are coated in a harmful wax that causes cancer. Yes, they have wax coatings but in general if there's anything dangerous it's in such small amounts that it would never, ever affect you. They latch on to silly findings and put big claims on them.

Not to mention that just because there seems to be a corrlation between some things, it does NOT mean they actually influence the other. For example, with the rise of telephone booths, birth rates skyrocketed. True? Fairly. Does it mean that telephone booths make more babies??? No! It takes years and years to prove relationships in scince.

It just really bugs me that they put out an article with scientific snipits like and strange theories and people go around saying they proved that homosexuality in genetic. The article says that boys with no penis still grow up with being attracted to girls. No shit! They say that boys with brothers are statistically more likely to be gay. I mean it's statistics! Get off it!

Ok so this has been incoherent. It's not that I think homosexuality isn't genetic, it very well could be, I just don't appreciate the wild claims. It's just that genetics are very complex. The Environment has huge impacts on gene regulation and I just don't think we're anywhere near testing environment and genes for the case of homosexuality.

In short, please don't make ridiculously scientific  claims if you don't know what you're talking about. It makes me mad.
