[two hours without power and it's about to get worse. any candles that may have been lit are blown out by an inexplicable breath of wind and refuse to light again. matches and lighters go out. cellphones shut down suddenly. the only lights that are let are the light of the stars and the moon through the windows

[Pauses, peering into the darkness, fortunately a respectable distance away.] Hey, Billy? Did your cuffs reset early or something?

[there's no response, though you certainly did catch "Billy's" attention Zell. he stands there, red eyes narrow, considering.

suddenly he grins. which is terrifying, since it's black and red and suddenly white and those teeth are REALLY sharp and it looks like there's far too many there. he winds back his right arm then throws it forward -- there's the sound of a gunshot going off as it extends and hurtles towards Zell.]

[Fortunately Zell's been trained to dodge unpredictable attacks for years, but it's still a close thing. He hits the floor rolling, making a rather unmanly shrieking noise as he does. He flips quickly to his feet and tries to find the threat again.]

[unfortunately this shadow has retained a lot of Billy's knowledge, such as the fact that you should keep moving, no matter whether you're the attacker or the attackee. he's disappeared from his spot only to appear somewhere closer to Zell. another gunshot and that arm's racing back at him.]

[mach_kick]

[Dodges again, settling into a fighting stance. Whatever the hell's going on, that projectile attack's gotta be taken out, and usually things that use things like that are vulnerable to close-quarter attacks... Zell takes a split-second to gauge shadow!Billy's position and rushes him, a blur of blond hair and his red Ergheiz gloves. For once, he's not grinning.]

[the shadow tries to move before Zell can zero in on him, but moves a little too slow -- he lets out an angry, intelligible yell as he gets hit by a punch. he disappears into the other shadows before he can be attacked again only to reappear behind Zell and try to grab him.]

[mach_kick]

[He grabs him, but is rewarded with a vicious stomp on his shin as Zell grabs his arm and attempts to throw him over his shoulder, letting out a yell as he does.]

Billy! Calm the hell down, I can't help you while you're trying to kill me!

[and the shadow is thrown and hits the floor hard, though he rolls and stops on a crouch. he lets out another angry yell and, with another gunshot, snaps his arm back toward Zell. the close distance made it risky but that hurt.]

[mach_kick]

[Zell's good, but he's human and unjunctioned at the moment, since this place is horribly boring and there's never anything to fight. He throws himself into a dodge but slightly too late, and blood drips on the floor as Zell comes out of his grimacing, right arm covering a puncture wound on his left forearm.]

[he may be covering it but the shadow doesn't miss the blood. he grins at the sight and the smell of it and launches another attack, spurred on.]

[There's pride and then there's survival. Zell throws himself out of the way of the next attack and eyes shadow!Billy, face set. He knows he should run but that's a long way to go with his back turned to a sharpshooter. So he does the next-best thing and veers past Billy, swinging into an empty apartment and slamming the door in Billy's face, throwing the bolt. At the least it'll buy him some time to figure out what to do next.]

[he hisses angrily when Zell shuts himself in the apartment, slamming the door hard with his shoulder. he's a big guy and pretty strong -- you may want to think quickly, Zell.]

[mach_kick]

[He's thinking fast. Billy has Marine training, so hiding to one side of the door probably isn't going to buy him a free attack. But since Billy's throwing his entire weight against it... Zell rapidly throws the bolt back and yanks open the door, stepping to the side to avoid getting squished and hoping like hell it'll get Billy off-balance.]

[badluckconvict]

[and it works! the shadow stumbles and nearly falls, struggling to keep from losing his footing from throwing all his weight against nothing but air. and as he's distracted with that, Zell's got a perfect opening to do what he will here.]

[mach_kick]

[Zell says a mental apology to Billy as his foot catches him full in the solar plexus, followed by a vicious punch to the temple. Practically he knows he should be going for deathblows, but he can't bring himself to do it to something that looks like it has his friend buried in there somewhere. So he merely aims to cripple, then does the practical thing and runs like hell.]

[okay ow. he falls and doesn't bother to get back up, in far too much pain to try to chase after or attack his escaping prey, though he does let out a tiny whine. no matter. he'll just heal and hunt Zell down again.]
