BTW, Arai ended up totally coming through- they sent me a replacement side pod for my broken helmet, and then (I ARE DUMBASS) let me exchange it for a piece that was actually the right color (I told them red, I actually have black). Didn't cost me anything beyond the $3 to ship the first piece back, and the helmet is back in working order.

But, jesus, I still feel like I'm going to break the thing every time I remove the visor, even though I now know I'm doing it the "right way".

(PS: yes, I am still a total poseur; I'm still shopping for a bike, and running out of time before winter is over and the market dries up. Not much luck finding a late-model, non-blue SV650S.)
