I bought a dress from Lane Bryant on-line that I was really excited about. I ordered enough that day to qualify for free shipping and I found a coupon code for 30% off my whole order, so the dress only cost me $35. But when I got it, it was too big.
I wanted to return it for an exchange in a smaller size, but I could not find a way to get a discount on the dress again, so I couldn't buy the same dress again for less than $50. And re-ordering is the only way to do an on-line exchange. I decided I liked the dress very much for $35, but I did not like it at all for $50. So I planned to just send it back.
Stopped today to send it off, and the cheapest I can get it there is $13.55. One simple dress in an envelope. $13.55. For a $35 dress. Ridiculous. I told the dude I didn't think I wanted to pay that much to send it back and that I'd have to think about it.
Fact is, I'd rather pay $20 to have the dress altered (which I think could be done for $10 or less) than to pay $14 to return it and have no dress. This is just insane. If a store tried to charge $15 to walk into the dressing room, it would be an outrage. I understand there is a convenience factor to the dress coming to my house, but I should be able to exchange it for the same price I paid the first time, and I should be able to return it for a reasonable price, not 39% of the cost of the dress.
Stupid.
