Gabriel hasn't gone back to his shop- no, they're still at Dante's, and he doesn't come down very often anymore. This, however, is one of the times that he does. He needs a little air, and he needs to talk to someone who understands. Not to say that Madeline doesn't understand, but...she doesn't. She doesn't need her power like he does. Like John would. For whatever reason, she doesn't identify it as something that she absolutely can't live without, although Gabriel has a sneaking suspicion it would be harder on her than she'd think.
Besides, he's trying to keep her from worrying too much, and that's hard to do when one is complaining about their situation all the time.
There's someone down there, though, that knew the seriousness of his situation immediately. St. John got it. Gabriel has to brave the possibility of seeing Adam when he heads down there, but...that's acceptable, by this point. After all, they're the same now, aren't they?
