I changed my id photo on facebook today, namely cause that picture of me and my betrothed had been there for like 3 months and I don't tend to keep photos up that long... ANYWAY... When I changed it, I picked a comic that I've loved for an age since I read it: http://xkcd.com/150/
The comic, should you choose not to look at it, basically has a girl and a guy. When she opens the door to her apartment, it's show that the entire thing is one big ball pit, you know the kind where parents leave kids in a room filled with large plastic balls? No? Then your childhood sucked and I suggest finding a ball pit at your local McDonald's or going there and demanding one. Loudly. Go on now.
So he asks her about why her apartment is full of balls like that. Her response has shaped a lot of the things I've done since I read this comic, and I think may have an impact on your lives as well.
'Because we're grownups now, and it's our turn to decide what that means.'
Think on that a moment.
Is there anything that you wanted to do, but decided that it was too childish?
Have you been in Walmart and wanted more than anything to play with one of the balls that they have on sale? Gone to the doctors office and instead of reading the boring celebrity magazines from last year that they have on the table, wanted to pick up the Where's Waldo book instead but feared the looks of strangers?
There are a million reasons to stop yourself from doing things in life that you want to, and a million reasons why you might look silly doing it or it might not be the best idea I'm sure. However, there is one reason that you should let loose once in a while and be a kid again.
It's fun.
Two simple little words and they're freeing if you take them to heart. Next time you're at the store, grab some crayons and a coloring book and go hog wild in it. When you're out at the park, play on the swings and the jungle gym. Be a kid and love every minute of it, and don't let people tell you that you're being immature or it's childish and that as an adult you should behave as one.
WE are the adults now. Let's all decide what that means.
