- I have shouted a lot today. I am not proud of this.
- We all went up to the hospital this afternoon for Little Three's orthoptic appointment. It was lovely to see Zoe the friendly orthoptist who we have now known for almost 11 years! Because I had all three children with me, she was reminiscing about when she first knew One, who used to bottom-shuffle everywhere, and also she remembered Two being born and me bringing him to the appointments for One in his stage one car seat! And there they both stood, hulking great 11 and 9 year olds! *big grin*
- Little Three showed a significant difference from one eye to the other and so she is being patched! This does not surprise me in the least, because she has mentioned fairly often herself recently that she has a good eye and a bad eye. We managed to avoid patching with One, because with their other vision issues, covering one eye would reduce the vision in the other eye so significantly that it would set them back tremendously. But things have moved on a lot in the last 10 years and Little Three has got something that wasn't in use when One was her age - a 'magic patch' as Zoe called it!
- This magic patch doesn't cover the eye completely; it is a sort of frosted covering for one lens of her glasses. It blurs the vision in her left eye (which is her good eye), therefore forcing her right eye to work harder for a while. The reason for the magic patch is that it lets light in, which for someone with nystagmus is very important. Covering one eye with an opaque patch would worsen her nystagmus horribly and make sight very tricky indeed. Letting the light in makes all the difference (I don't know why but don't really need to know as long as it works! *g*)
- She has another appointment booked for four weeks' time because apparently patching can make a difference really fast. If no difference is apparent then, then there is probably nothing else we can do to get her eyes to match up more closely, and she will have to put up with it. We shall see.
-Those aren't so much bullet points as paragraphs. Never mind!
- It was nice to have a visit from
revoz this afternoon when he delivered our 'Love Life Live Lent' booklets. We gave him a cup of tea and forced him to admire the fully built Billy Bookshelves that he cheerfully almost did his back in loading in and out of his car the other week!
- We had pancakes for tea, as is fitting on Shrove Tuesday. They took forever to cook (I always underestimate how early I should start) but were the best batch of pancakes I have EVER made. Every single one was perfect, even the first one - and I tossed them all single handedly - all except for one which I let Two have a go at and he threw it gracefully onto the kitchen floor! Our kitchen floor is so filthy at the moment that the five second rule does not apply so it went in the bin!
- Time for bath, book and bed now. Tomorrow morning I need to make sure the kids get packed ready to go away in the afternoon with their Dad till Sunday.
