Domesticity and household management

Today I made an enormous vegetable lasagne, in our biggest roasting dish. The four of us ate some for tea with new potatoes, and then I cut the rest up into 11 individual portions and put them all in the freezer. So very organised! And it was delicious; we all loved it except for L3 who kept telling me she wanted 'real' lasagne (i.e. made with beef mince!). Oh well, she ate her potatoes so she won't starve, and the other two had her spurned portion between them!

Went to the local garden centre with Mum in the afternoon; I bought a little fuschia which will hopefully grow into a nice bush, four plant pots (three of them are for planting out the sunflowers currently on the dining room windowsill and the fourth is for the fuschia), some compost and three canes for the sunflowers. Most exciting, I haven't really done much in the way of gardening before.

Tonight once everyone was in bed I sat down yet again and made a budget. I keep doing this in various ways and it keeps changing as my income and expected outgoings have been fluctuating wildly! Finally things are settling down and will only change a little bit from now on, so I felt able to make a proper budget. I went into much more detail than I have in the past, and now have a monthly budget for clothes, holidays, school trips etc. which haven't had their own categories before. I think I'm going to open a basic savings account so I can pay the holidays/days out money into that each month and then draw on it when I need to use it. That way it doesn't get frittered away on day to day stuff by mistake - very easy to do when it is just sitting in the account!

I feel so financially organised that I am slightly worried I've missed off something obvious and vital which will throw all my calculations into disarray!

It's been a really good day but a very busy one, so I think I will be snuggling into bed with a book soon. I'm really struggling to read at the moment as the minute I get into bed to do so, my eyes start closing! Life is exhausting just now but I feel positive and contented.
