Chinen bit Yamada’s lips. He was flushed with anger and embarrassment. He couldn’t take it that Yamada thought of him as an easy pie. He looked at the taller man with shock, disgust and disappointment. He didn’t utter any word. He simply shook his head as huge teardrops fell from his eyes and ran away.
“Chi-!itte!” Yamada could taste his blood as his heart clenched. ‘How did things turn out this way?’
-A recollection of what happened. -
Chinen Yuri and Yamada Ryosuke are best friends since forever. They are inseparable. Chinen sits on his lap most of the time and Yamada lets him. The hell, he even hugs him back. He likes it. That’s a fact. They go to dates when they’re free. It’s basically hanging around amusement parks, malls, each other’s houses and stuff. Both of them thought they’re going to remain like that forever. It seems fate has different plans. Yamada got a show where none of the Hey Say members are in. What’s more is that the genre is romance. He worked with the girl Mika. She’s quite fine, a bit spoiled and bratty but pretty. Well duh she’s a star. Lately, Mika’s been taking most of Yamada’s time. Define most? Well it’s literally every time Yamada’s got a break. I mean e-ve-ry-time. Even at Hey Say’s PV making, she visits him, making him lunchboxes and acting like his girlfriend. Yamada couldn’t possibly refuse her for she’s the daughter of some huge company president who’s a good friend of Johnny. Chinen couldn’t even protest because he was hit with the question she asked him: “Who are you to him?” Chinen proudly says that he’s Yamada’s best friend. But then he got told off “Well then you don’t need to act like his girlfriend. You are guy…, right?”
Chinen wished Yamada would spend some time with him. So he was ecstatic when they’d be shooting at Osaka and stay in a hotel there meanwhile.
-At Osaka-
“Lucky~ I get to be in the same room as Ryosuke!” Chinen beamed at the taller guy.
“It’s a relief, ne~” Yamada replied with a soft smile. “It’s been a while since we’ve been together.”
“Un, lately you’ve been with Mika-san most of the time.” Chinen replied a bit sadly. Yamada poked his cheek “You jealous~?” Chinen laughed it off and said “No way! I’m just sad. We’re always together and this suddenly happens. I’m still not used to it.”
“Because Chinen is so spoiled, ne~” Yamada poked his cheek once again. “Mou… Ryosuke…” Chinen pouted a bit. “Don’t worry. It’ll pass in no time. Then we’ll be together forever again.” Yamada rested his chin on Chinen’s head. “Really?” Chii asked for assurance and got a “Un~ I promise.” as a response. “Yay~” Chinen held Yamada’s hand and the latter squeezed in return.
They were the picture of idiotic men laughing happily at each other’s presence until Mika came. “Eherm… Ryosuke~ I’m here!”
“Mika-san! What are you doing here?” Yamada asked almost breathless. Chinen was really shocked too. His eyes looked like it would jump out of its socket.
“Mika missed you so she’s here! Surprised~?” She let out the ever girly ehehehehe~<3
Mika grabbed Yamada’s shoulder and pushed Chinen a bit so he’d stumble back.
“Ah sorry~ you’re so small that I didn’t see you. Jaa, bye bye~! Ryosuke~ show me around Osaka ne~ ah sou~ imitate the Osaka accent while you’re at it too. Ehehehe~ <3”
“Wow. That was fast.” Chinen referred to their moment of bliss together.
“That was rude. Even if you’re small you can still be seen perfectly. Being so cute and all.” Yuto frowned at the scene of Mika taking Yamada. Chinen giggled “jealous too Yuto?”
“Sou sou! If he’s gonna flirt it should be with you.” Yuto crossed his arms.
“What’s with that?” Chinen giggled trying to take his mind off the painful clenching of his heart.
Mika was with Yamada all of the time. The only time she wasn’t there was when he was in the toilet. She’d be waiting outside though.
_At dinner_
“Who’s Ryosuke’s closest friend in this group?” Mika asked everyone.
“Obviously, it’d be Chinen, right?” Yuto answered and everyone agreed.
“Ah… he’s mine now ‘kay? Ehehehe~” Mika smiled and Yamada choked and almost spit the water from his mouth. He just couldn’t take it anymore.
“I’ll clarify things right now before anything arises. I’m not your boyfriend.” Yamada told her in front of them.
Chinen was partying inside his head screaming “finally! Finally! Ike, my Ryosuke!”
Mika couldn’t believe her ears and screamed “EEEHHHH?!?!?!” She stormed off the room while holding Yamada’s wrist.
“Women are scary, ne” Hikaru commented.
“Yosh! Chinen, go after them.” Yuto commanded.
“Eh? Why should I?” Chinen ate a gyoza.
“Ii kara ike yo.” Yuto pushed him.
“Jeez… and I so wanted to eat more gyoza.” He hesitantly went to follow them.
_At the balcony_
“I thought we’re a couple?” Mika protested.
“Who told you that?” Yamada was shocked beyond belief. ‘This girl’s delusional!’
“Well if co actors work on a romance film then they’re bound to get together, right?”
‘This ever idiotic stupid brat.’ “Hell no!” Yamada shouted.
“Jaa I’m asking you out! Be mine.” Mika crossed her arms.
“Uh… no thanks.” Good I flat out rejected her.
“Why not?” Mika frowned and pouted.
‘Well why yes? LOL’ He just shrugged.
“Is there another girl?” Mika asked.
“No. There’s no girl.” Yamada sighed.
“Don’t tell me it’s ‘cause it’s not the right time? Dude you’re 18, that’s lame.”
“No it’s not that. It’s just that I’m not interested in any girls.” Yamada explained.
She gasped. “You’re gay!”
“What? Hell no!” He protested.
“Ryosuke… Ryosu-“ Chinen stepped back when he noticed they’re still talking.
“Is it Chinen? It’s Chinen, right? You’re gay! How disgusting!” Mika looked at him with disgust in her eyes.
“What? No! We’re both guys! He’s just my best friend.”
“Well then why do you let him call you Ryosuke? Why do you let him sit on your lap? Why do you hug him when he does? Why do you always have sweet moments with him, eh? Don’t tell me you like it?!” Mika kept on ranting.
“No! Why do you care anyways? I don’t like him that way! That’s just disgusting!”
“ouch...” was all Chinen could mutter and ran away.
Mou iya! I don’t want to hear anymore. He ran away crying. He stopped when he almost reached the dining area. Crap, they’ll see me. So he ran upstairs. Oh right… we’re roommates. I gotta go change it.
_meanwhile_
“Then why?” Mika wanted an answer.
“Because I don’t see you that way! I see you as a little sister. No more, no less.” Ryosuke let it out and let out a sigh of relief.
“Gee… you should’ve said so earlier. Fine. I’ll give up. I’ll go to Takaki-san ‘cause he’s waaayy cooler!” She sticked out her tongue and stormed away.
“phew… finally.” Ryosuke went back to their room.
“Ah. Yabu, why are you here?” Yamada asked. “I’m supposed to be with Chinen.”
“Ah… I don’t know. He said he wanted the room with the balcony.” Yabu continued texting Hikaru.
“Go talk to him he’s in the room with the balcony, right.” Yamada scoffed.
What’s with Chinen acting all spoiled like that? Who was the one who was acting all excited sharing a room with me? And when I finally got Mika off of me he’s not here, jeez. Yamada was mumbling complaints as he went down the stairs.
“Ohayo” He greeted and got greeted back by everyone except by a certain squirrel.
“Yoh, Chii.” He greeted Chinen.
“Ah. Un.” Chinen went back to talking to Daiki.
‘weird’ was what he thought but he shrugged it off. ‘He must have woken up on the wrong side of the bed.’
He planned to make up to Chinen their lost time but Chinen ignored him. Well, not really.
‘He just spent more time with others…’ Yamada thought to himself. ‘Okay that’s a bit rude calling members of hey say others, okay let me correct that- he spent more time with the other member of the hey say jump. There, better? No. Not better since they’re TEN! THERE ARE TEN FUCKING PEOPLE IN THIS GROUP AND HE’S SPENDING MOST OF HIS TIME WITH ALL OF THEM BUT NOT ME- HIS BESTFRIEND! I am soooo gonna talk to him about us right now.’
“Chinen.” He entered the lobby and asked for the little guy’s company and Chinen tried to evade him again.
“Eh? I’m still playing shogi with morimoto.” Chinen said with a pout.
“Please, just follow me.” Yamada said desperately.
_At the balcony_
“What is it?” Chinen looked at him distantly. This is not the Chinen he knew. It’s not the Chinen who always smiled at him, the Chinen who’d be willing to be summoned anywhere just to be with him.
At that moment Yamada felt an aching pang in his heart. It feels as if he’d lost something so important that he must get back.
“Why are you avoiding me?” Yamada started.
“What? I’m not avoiding you.” Chinen looked to the left, a sign of lying. Chii’s not a good liar.
“Come on tell me, what happened?” Yamada pleaded.
“Nothing, I’m just spending more time with the other members. I’ve noticed ever since Mika’s been bugging you that I’ve always been by your side that I haven’t spent bonding time with the other members so I’m making up for the lost time.” Still looking to the left.
It’s a really convincing argument but as expected Chii’s a bad liar. He’s hiding something.
“Well you don’t have to leave me. Let’s have fun with them together.” Puppy dog eyes, Yamada hoped with all his heart it’ll work.
It didn’t.
“Look, I don’t have to be with you always, do I? I mean, what if you get a life? I mean a girlfriend. You’ll have to spend most of your time with her. What about me then? Will I just wait when you’re available? I just don’t think that’s right.” Chinen looked hurt by his own words.
“What’ll happen to us then? Will we just separate and act as if nothing happened?” I was a bit aggravated by his proposal.
“Us? There’s no us. Nothing happened? Nothing really happened at all.” Chinen turned cold.
“What do you mean there’s no us? Aren’t you my best friend? What about all the things we’ve done. Are you just going to forget all of those?” my tone was rising. I must say it’s pretty loud and angry right now.
Apparently he is too.
“Would you just shut up! I’m doing a pretty fine job ignoring it so why can’t you just live without bothering me?!” Chinen blew.
“Bothering you? So that’s how you think it is? You’re the one who’s always clinging to me!”
“That’s why I stopped, didn’t I? DAMNIT! I stopped ‘coz it was annoying you! It was disgusting you! I was disgusting you! So I stopped!” Tears rolled down Chinen’s cheek.
I cupped his cheek. It was still soft like the candy he likes to eat. He was shocked to see me touching him. As if a ghost has touched him. His lips were a bit parted and trembling. It looked… so appealing that by instinct I just kissed him then and there.
And that’s how things go back to the present.
_Chinen’s room _
“What the hell…” Chinen cried his heart out at the side of the bed.
_The next day_
There was tension in the air.
Yamada’s bruised lips.
Chinen’s red face from too much crying.
Everyone decided that it’s my fault from that and gave me the cold attitude.
Well true, my fault since I kissed him. And I don’t know why. I must be a jerk. Kissing a guy, he must think I’m disgusting.
Wait. Disgusting. Why did Chinen think I thought of him as disgusting? Wait wait wait.
When was the last time we talked? The day I finally got rid of Mika. Huwa… maybe. Just maybe. “Chinen!” I rushed to the lounge.
“Were you eavesdropping the day I got rid of Mika?” I was sweating all over.
His eyes widened as if he remembered something terrible and looked to the right, a sign of remembering something plus his face looked like his hamster just died.
He was.
“Look, what you heard wasn’t true. I don’t think of you as disgusting at all! That was just a spur of the moment thing. I was desperate to get rid of her but I don’t want her to think I’m gay since she might spread false rumor, which may be a tad bit true right now since I love you.” Wow I do? Wait. I do! I love him! Gosh I’m so stupid why on earth didn’t I notice it before?
Everyone’s jaw dropped except Chinen’s. It was just a bit parted as usual, so…kissable.
.
.
.
.
Okay what on earth is with this awkward silence?
“Ryo-chan…that’s disgusting.”
“Eh?” Is that a rejection? Wow. That was fast. I’ve been dumped. Should I sing OVER right now?
Yabu approached me and gave me a handkerchief. Apparently I was drooling.
“Wait wait. What did you just call me?”
“Ah.” Chinen pouted. “Yamada-san.”
“Come on Chii, call me like you used to.” I begged him.
After a long silence with the ever present cute pout on his face he finally said “After you say what you said that made me say what I didn’t want to say at all.”
“What? Come on Chii you know I suck at riddles.”
His eyes looked deadpanned and disappointed at my idiocacy.
Everyone sighed and left the room.
He sighed and said “Still don’t get it?”
“Ah!! I can’t handle this pressure! You’ll call me Ryosuke again if I say the thing I said that made you say what you don’t want to say.”
He nodded.
“Ah! You want me to repeat what I said that made you call me!”
“Finally, you idiot.” He chuckled a bit devilishly.
“Ouch. Okay, so what was it that I said?”
His eyes… well, they really look like this T_T.
I have freaking no idea as to- ah! “I LOVE YOU!”
After I said that ever obvious sentence that I noticed just now he blushed beet red and covered his face with the pillow he was holding, so cute.
I chuckled devilishly at my victory and teased him. “Yuuri~ Call me like you used to.”
I approached him slowly.
“Get away from me Yamada-san!” He shrieked.
“But I won~ Come on, you’re not playing fair.” I am now in front of him kneeling on the floor as he sat on the sofa. If only the pillow wasn’t here… ah. Kekeke, If I push it away then~.
“Yuuri~” I said his name with a melody.
“I swear Yamada Ryosuke do what you’re thinking and you’re going to die.”
His tone was that of a bomber. It sent chills down my spine but I have to be brave.
“Yuuri….” My tone was pleading and I slowly took the pillow from his hand.
He struggled at first but he slowly let go of the pillow which revealed his beet red tear streaked face.
“Y-yuuri…” I felt guilty. What could I do to repaint his face?
A.N./-Saa, what could it be, ne? LOL.
