RIP Scroogle (2003 - 2012)
It's served me well for two, or maybe three years, but now it looks like it's finally over for Scroogle Scraper. After several days of being unavailable and getting the vaunted "temporarily unavailable" page whenever I type in search queries, Scroogle's DNS is now automatically redirecting access to localhost (ever user's local machine).
The cause? A bunch of hackers had conducted a bunch of continuous DDoS attacks on what few servers the Scraper had been running until the site owner finally relented. Google's tendencies to throttle its performance at times didn't really help either, but the hacking attacks had been the straw breaking the camel's back.
Hope it comes back one of these days. For now, I'll be using DuckDuckGo as an alternative.
