I spent my Tuesday watching TV.
I will admit that I did watch the first ten or so minutes of The Search for the Next Pussycat Doll or whatever the hell the actual title is, because I had heard that Sandy was going to be on it. And she was.
So apparently she's one of the oldest, if not the oldest, of the eighteen semifinalists, and she talked about how her family was killed in a plane crash when she was supposed to be on it. OMG, so sad. (But part of me really wants to know why she *wasn't* on it. I'm a nosy bitchcurious like that.)
So yeah, she's really adorable. I noticed that when they're talking about all the stuff they've gotta do, all the girls look super duper excited-- and then they show Sandy and she just looks so scared. Oh, woobie. And there was this shot of all the girls eating around this table, and then she's off all the way across the room by herself. I think they're gonna make her The Emo Contestant, just like Burping Girl is Burping Girl/The Stupid Contestant and the Teen Mother is the Underdog Contestant.
I'm basically the biggest Sandy fangirl ever, now, but I have to wonder why she's doing it. Was she not liking acting, or was she getting discouraged about not getting enough parts? I thought she was really good in Cry_Wolf, and I loved her
as Hippie Groundhog Girl With No Dialogue on The O.C. And of course I have to wonder what Jared thinks of it. As much as I fangirl Sandy now, I don't want her to win, because I think TPD are really skanky, and they promote viewing women as sex objects, etc, etc, ad nauseam.
Which is why it amuses me to no end that one of the girls (Anjelia, I think) said (and some of this may be paraphrased as opposed to verbatim): "I want to be a Pussycat Doll because The Pussycat Dolls are all about female empowerment." Perhaps I will go into what I think is completely wrong with that statement another time. As for now, I have House, Gilmore Girls, and The Black Donnellys to consider.
But before that, I watched
Gilmore Girls. I don't have much to say except I was pretty satisfied with the way Rory handled Logan's stunt. And I'm kind of mad that they didn't tell us what Lane's babies names are.
And before that, I watched
The Black Donnellys, which is not technically Tuesday night TV, but it's on too late for me to watch on Mondays on account of I have to get up and go to high school. Much "Oh, Tommy" and "Oh, Kevin" occurred.
And now I'm watching
House MD.
I'm really impressed with the casting in this one. Some of my strongest memories of early childhood are hanging out in my cousin's room listening to Under The Table and Dreaming (this was mid-nineties, guys, I'm a baby) and playing cards. And Kurtwood Smith is pretty much my hero-- That 70s Show, Dead Poets Society-- so it's interesting to see him playing a caring father as opposed to an asshole. And hey-- Kurtwood Smith, Robert Sean Leonard-- it's a DPS reunion! I wish Ethan Hawke would have a cameo. Or the guy who played Knox Overstreet. Best name ever.
The Cameron/Chase, Cameron/House storyline... Ehhh... And the eyeroll completely made up for that. And the fact that it was Cameron's strikingly House-esque way of getting his blood.
Plus Foreman's stunt holding the info ransom, and Chase's hug!
I'd also like to say that I'm not a cinematography geek at all, but I loved some of the shots; the Patrick-POV work was really good, IMO, and I loved the shot of House through the peephole. And at the end, with the piano music while Patrick buttoned his shirt, that was nice.
And I'm really digging the aftermath of the cancer storyline. Robert Sean Leonard played that brilliantly. And oh, the disappointment on Cameron's face was priceless. Good job, JM.
Some great lines this episode:
"Just because it's inexplicted doesn't mean it's inexplicable."
"One small feel for man. One giant ass for mankind."
And of course: "You faked cancer to get high?"
