What happened to 'good time music'?

I swear, it never amazes me how even the poppiest 60;s music is just leagues above the schlock that passes for pop music these days. I'm immensly enjoying the Lovin' Spoonful right now. I just had a good dose of 60's LA rock via Love, Buffalo Springfield and the Byrds, so now I'm chilling out with the Spoonful and the lava lamp. Lord, I should be

I LOVE the Spoonful! John Sebastian just played here a few weeks ago, but I couldn't go. :( "Darling Be Home Soon" is my favorite Lovin' Spoonful song.
