Not that I forgot about this, or anything.

Long overdue responses to the opinion meme:

I'd still go for Clark/Lois. I do ship them both with other people as well, but perhaps because Clark/Lois is canon, I've always viewed those other ships in light of the fact that they can never happen, so maybe I'm not able to answer this without some degree of bias. But canon aside, my reasoning would be that Clark and Lana are, when they're getting on, a lovely couple who make each other very happy, but when they're not getting on they can make each other so miserable it's borderline dysfunctional. I don't think that this would happen with either Clark/Chloe or Clark/Lois, but I think Clark and Chloe have the most incredible platonic love, and I do think we'd lose some of that if they were a couple. Therefore, for Clark, I think Lois is probably the best match. For Lois, I like Oliver just as much, but Oliver seems to ship Clark/Lois himself, so there we go.

It really irritates me when people trash a ship (say, X/Y) by complaining about a certain trait that X exhibits and saying that this makes X in some way "bad" or "wrong" for Y - and yet they ship Y with a character who exhibits exactly the same trait (often, in my opinion, to a greater degree). There are people who dislike Clark/Lana because she is dishonest and manipulative - yes, she could be, but it doesn't really ring true that that's the issue if they then ship Clark with, of all people, Lex Luthor. Rose is not academically* bright enough for the Doctor, but Donna, who said herself that she didn't achieve very highly in school, would be perfect for him. And, in a fandom which I'm certainly not part of, but in which this reasoning often seems to crop up: Jacob is terrible for Bella because he's a dangerous werewolf and he doesn't want her to be with Edward - hey, guys, did you miss the bit where Edward disables Bella's car and forces her to stay at his house to stop her seeing Jacob? Did you forget about the part where he's a vampire who wants to snack on her delicious freesia blood?

I don't mind people not liking my ships, because not everyone feels the same way about certain characters being together. There are adored ships that I wouldn't touch with a ten-foot barge pole. But I hate that people feel the need to come out with some ridiculous reason why the ship they dislike is not just "Not something I'm interested in" but in all ways awful and wrong and terrible. Yes, some ships aren't very nice, but surely if there is something specific that puts you off it, it makes no sense to claim that another ship which has or would have the same problems would be brilliant.

*I assume the people who do this refer to academic intelligence (which is ridiculous - why would this be needed?), because if they're referring to general common sense, I'm certain that they must be watching a different show. People who lack common sense don't last long on the TARDIS - see Adam Mitchell for further details.

That was fun! Anyone else want to hear me ramble? Meme post is here if you do, and comments to it are screened.
