Lots to celebrate

Dec 04, 2012 14:58

Wow. I've only been away for about a week, and during that time, the posting an entry has got a different look altogether. I only hope you get to see what I'm writing, and that the whole post doesn't disappear into cyber heaven....
There's not usually much to celebrate in December, except for Independence day on the 6th, Saint Lucy's day on the 13th, and then of course Christmas. Most people in my closest circle have birthdays either in autumn or spring. However, my friend with her family just moved, so they had a combined party of housewarming, her husband's birthday, and welcoming home the new arrival, a sweet baby girl. She was born during a bad snowstorm, so we were a bit worried about how the parents would manage to get to the hospital in time (the baby was delivered by caesarean section). Luckily, everything went well. The parents are doing well, and her big sister and brother are totally in love with the new baby, except when she keeps them awake... They have a playroom in the attic now, and it looks lovely with all the toys scattered about, and still enough room to play. I think everyone is settling down nicely and looking forward to Christmas in their new home.
I'm looking forward to Christmas too, although I have to economize more than usual. It's going to be a December with  a heavy knitting load, I can tell you... I'm very lucky to be able to make presents, because for one, I have next to no money to buy anything, and for another thing, I don't really like shopping, especially around the holidays, hearing bad Christmas music in all the stores...
I was meaning to visit my friend during the Independence Day weekend, but she's got plans, so I'll go next week instead, and watch the big Independence Day ball at home instead. It's the most popular program on that particular channel all year, people love criticising the gowns and hairdos:).
The weather is very cold, and we still have lots of snow. I hope it won't all melt away before Christmas. The slush it leaves is bad enough, and when that freezes over, you're looking at real opportunities for slipping and breaking bones... I'll stay inside with my knitting as much as I can, watching videos. Dad managed to find a box with the rest of my DVD:s, which I thought were stored away, so I think I'll watch the Harry Potters and the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and then possibly the Pirates of the Caribbean, and by the time I'm done, Christmas will almost be here, and my knitting will be done. Are you thinking about presents yet?

red-letter days, what i did today
